Subterrain is a very well made zombie survival game that’s more of a top down DayZ than a an arcade zombie blaster.

There is some gunplay in Subterrain, but as with DayZ, it’s more about survival, with limited supplies you need to eat, drink, sleep, scavenge and craft items in order to survive this zombie infested underground city.  Food, water, medical supplies and (most importantly) weaponry are littered around the areas, all helping you to survive that little bit longer.

Still early in development, the game already looks fantastic, with dank gloomy rooms full of great little details and lots of lurking zombies.  It’s a tough game, you’ll have to plan, scavenge, ration and fight to survive, but nobody said the surviving a zombie apocalypse would be easy!

Facewound is a fun, brutal and bloody 2D run and gun side scroller, with an impressive particle physics engine, ragdoll effects, a vast array of weaponry and huge hordes of monsters to use them on.

The original aim for the devs was to make a 2D shooter with all of the effects of something like Counter-Strike: Source.  They’ve certainly achieved that and a whole lot more, with impressive visual effects, massive explosions, a very cool slow-mo ability, and a large assortment of weaponry to blow away hordes of zombies, spacebrains, ghosts, skeletons, rocks, fish and more.  Taking down swarms of these monsters is superb fun, whether popping heads with a magnum, decimating groups with a shotgun, nuking them with explosives or just charging at them with a chainsaw - in Facewound killing things just looks so cool, particularly in slow-mo.

The extensive armoury is unlocked through a shop (accessed by pressing ‘B’), where you can use your hard earned plutonium to purchase bow & arrows, grenades, sawn off shotguns, chainsaws, landmines, AK-47s, Miniguns, Flamethrowers and more.  It’s best upgrading your weapon as soon as possible as the basic handgun is fairly weak and the rest of the weaponry is so much fun (Hint: Jump into the wall on your left when you start the game and you’ll find a secret area full of plutonium that you can use to upgrade your weaponry).

There may be all manner of monsters out to get you in Facewound, but by far the most deadly thing in the game is the humble oil barrel.  God knows what’s in them, but Facewound has by far the most devastatingly explosive oil barrels ever witnessed in a game - causing massive explosions that shake the screen and decimate anything nearby, including you.  A general rule of thumb for these drums is: if you can see it when it explodes you will die.  So if you see one on fire, RUN!

Running and gunning in Facewound is incredible fun, blowing away hordes of monsters with overpowered weaponry in slow motion never gets old.  It’s also peppered with nice little touches like humorous billboards and secret areas.  It really is a blast (especially if you stand too close to those oil barrels).

World Zombination is a fun real time strategy game that tasks you with taking over the world with your zombie horde or helping the human faction survive the zombie apocalypse.

The zombie hordes are certainly that, with hundreds of zombies swarming the screen hell-bent on feasting on the survivors.  As well as sheer numbers, the zombie faction has a range of different zombies such as runners, spitters and brutes at their disposal to accomplish world zombination.

The humans may not have numbers but they’ve got brains (braaaains).  With a selection of units such as snipers, medics and brawlers, they use tactical positioning and superior firepower to fight back the waves of undead.

As well as masses of zombies, World Zombination has a wonderful cartoony art style, a great sense of humor and some clever character design.  Swarms of zombies look fantastic as they charge across the screen, especially if they’re the one in charge of them!

The Beta works on iPad 2 and iPhone 5 or newer at the moment, but there are plans for Android, Mac & PC versions.

Infectonator: Survivors is a Randomized Permadeath Survival Simulator that combines RTS, Tower Defense, Roguelike, and Management-Simulation gameplay.  Your goal is to lead a group of survivors in a struggle to stay alive and find rescue in a zombie apocalyptic world.  You must scavenge resources, build defenses, and find a way to survive in a game where death is permanent and levels are randomly generated.

The game features wonderful pixel art graphics, randomly generated cities and an XCOM-style permadeath system.  You start out with 4 survivors, one equipped with a melee weapon and the others equipped with handguns.  You then have to position your survivors  to best defend themselves against waves of zombies, while also trying to scavenge resources and cash from nearby receptacles which can be used to fortify your defences with turrets.

Infectornator: Survivors is a wonderful mix of a variety of genres, with Zombie survival, RTS, Tower Defence and Roguleike elements mashed together and encased in a wonderful pixel art exterior.  Surviving a zombie apocalypse shouldn’t be this fun.

Deadwood is a great looking twin-stick shooter/tower defence hybrid that that sees you scavenging and securing a base during the daytime and fighting off zombies in the night time.  The Prototype is still early in development so obviously it’s not fully featured, but it already looks very nice and shows of the core gameplay pretty well.  You can scavenge for resources, set traps, erect barriers, create choke points and shoot down the wooden zombies (Deadwoods), trying to survive as long as possible.

Once you’re finished playing the prototype, you’ll be given the option to leave feedback and sign-up for the fully featured Beta.
