The Flock is a great looking online first-person asymmetrical horror game coming toSteam, in which players compete to own the ‘Light Artefact’ which turns you from the hunter into the prey.

The gameplay trailer shows of some very pretty and rather creepy looking surroundings.  You are one of ‘the Flock’, a race of large and agile monsters, who seek out the coveted ‘Light Artifact’. Once a player grabs the Artifact, they will then turn into the fragile, slow, and more humanlike ‘Carrier’.

The hunters are more agile, but they can be harmed by the light, capable of turning them to stone if they stand still in it, and killing them if they move.  Players accumulate points over time so survival is key.

Potential Alpha testers will need their Steam user name, e-mail address and a short description of why you want to join in the Alpha.

FEAR Onlinethe team focused horror-themed FPS staring everyone’s favourite psychopathic psionic child, is now in Open Beta.

The Loadout: Campaign Beta is a massive update for Loadout, a F2P 3rd person shooter with a satisfyingly chaotic mix of OTT cartoon violence and competitive multiplayer.

The new update 5.0 Enter The Kroad, adds lots of new additions to Loadout, so requires an entirely separate Beta to fully test before they’re implemented into the main game.  It introduces the Kroad – a bloodthirsty race with 6 known sub-species who will slaughter anyone who stands between them and their Blutonium.  Luckily for you, you’ll have access to billions of different weaponized technologies to fight against the Kroad’s clearly superior constitution, but it’s still not going to be easy!

The new update will also allow you to upgrade your character through PvE Campaign battles or PvP fights, including new game modes such as Alien Assault, Hold Your Pole, and Protect Your Junk.  There’s also a rarity-based parts inventory management system, allowing you to collect drops on the battlefield from defeated adversaries and mission rewards to feed your gunnery addiction – from common to ultra-rare elite items.  Any equipment you don’t want can be used in the new ‘Fusion system’, which allows you to combine them and improve your equipment.

The Loadout: Campaign Beta is a huge update, building on the fast paced old school shooting of the main game to create a something that’s a real blast to play.  If you’re looking for an OTT shooter with tons of customisation and a wicked sense of humour, Loadout is King of the Kroad.

Dizzel is a strangely named 3rd person multiplayer shooter, similar to Gears of War but with faster gameplay and gore, lots and lots of gore.

It’s a game that definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously, with over the top violence, fast paced gameplay and a selection of brutal fatalities you can use to finish off enemies.  There are also a variety of game modes, such as Killer Sentinels (one team overpowered, hunting down the other team), Predator mode (one player randomly selected to have massive stat boost), 2 vs 2 vs 2 vs 2, 8 vs 8 Team Death Match, Demolition and more.

It looks like a fun, OTT and brutal 3rd person cover shooter –  Gears of Gore.

Rise Of Incarnates is a great looking new fighting game from Bandai Namco (famed for the Tekken and SoulCalibur franchises) in which players take control if Incarnates with mythical powers and beat the crap out of each other in real-world cityscapes.

The back-story is a typically silly, but entertaining affair, and fittingly, some of it can be read in comic book for on the main website.  The Incarnates are humans who have been gifted mythical powers by meteorites that fell from the sky, after that it goes a bit X-Men, with regular humans fearing them and Incarnates fighting among themselves.  There’s also a mysterious voice that has spoken to the Incarnates, delivering a cryptic message “To avoid certain destruction, you must defeat the Sovereign of this era.”

With their own interpretations and reasons for fighting, the incarnates enter the fray.  This means a multitude of super-powered characters beating each other up in 2 vs. 2 matches across some beautifully rendered and half-destroyed real world locations.  The diverse character types are promised to have unique skills and powers and appeal to a variety of play-styles while accommodating expansive team dynamics and strategy in the 3D Battle Arenas.

Rise of Incarnates certainly looks very impressive, if the gameplay matches the visuals, this could be a super-human smackdown of epic proportions.

UPDATE: The Open Beta Is live on Steam Now!

Double Action Boogaloo is a very stylish multiplayer shooter with more slow motion duel-wielding diving, flipping, sliding and shooting than in John Woos wildest dreams. It is completely free, and runs on Valve’s Source engine through Steam.

The dev describes the game as like “doing a backflip off some dude’s face, diving through a window, with gold-plated pistols firing in slow motion.  There’s an explosion behind you and somebody’s stolen your briefcase full of money.”  After playing it, it’s hard not to agree with that sentiment, with the game full of ridiculous OTT action, with players jumping, diving and sliding all over the place like Max Payne in a John Woo movie.

There are various characters, customisable load-outs and style skills (perks) to choose from at the start of the match.  The main game mode it a cleverly implemented battle royale interspersed with objectives that are added on-the-fly, such as checkpoint races, capturing a briefcase or hunting down the wanted criminal.  It’s a great system that adds some nice variety to the gameplay.

The game can either be played from a 3rd person or first person perspective (switch with ‘J’), both work well, but 3rd person looks way cooler when you’re flying through the air.  Comparisons to Max Payne are obvious (especially as you’re able to slow down time), but your character is far more versatile, the action is more OTT, and the gameplay is more fun – double the fun!

Happy Wars, the cartoon-style online role-playing strategy game for Xbox 360 is now coming to Steam.  It recieved mixed reviews upon release on 360, but with a few minor improvements it could make for a fun, chaotic multiplayer experience upon it’s Steam release.

The 360 version is an enjoyable enough game with a short story driven single player campaign and a focus on multiplayer, which consists of 2 teams of 15 players attacking each other’s castle, while defending their own.  There’s a choice of 3 classes - warrior, mage & cleric - with a few subclasses too, each class has it’s own unique base attack and unique abilities.

The gameplay in the 360 version was most let down by uneven matchmaking, lost connections and a lack of variety in the campaigns.  However, the basic gameplay was genuinely pretty fun, with chaotic combat, plenty of customisation options and a good sense of humor.

If they manage to fix the matchmaking/server issues and add a little variety to the campaign for the Steam release, it could be a very enjoyable game, full of chaotic 30 player battles and lots of character.
