Strangely enough, darkness is your friend in Reunition - a 2D pixel-based horror set in a house of mirrors where if the monsters can’t see you then they can’t harm you.

As you search for your missing son you’ll have to be quick to snuff out your lamp before freaky monsters jump out and kill you - light guides your way but you’ll find safety in the darkness.

It’s no easy task transferring horror into pixellated 2D, so it’s interesting in the way that Reunition opts to use it’s jump scares as a means for providing some light twitch-based gameplay. It’s simple, punishing, but effective, keeping you tense in the way a horror game should.

Deep Sleep is an unsettling point-and-click horror game reminiscent of classic room escape games like The Crimson Room, in which you find yourself trapped in a horrible nightmare, desperately trying to wake up.

Deep Sleep’s disturbing atmosphere lets you know right away that you should be uneasy. The eerie ambience is chilling and any changes in the game’s subtle hum will set you immediately on edge. As you wander through decrepit halls, the game’s grimy pixel art seems to play tricks on your eyes, making you see things that aren’t there… and somethings that are.

Put away your toys. Change into  your jammies. Don’t make a mess. Seems simple enough – and it would be, if your house wasn’t haunted!

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Sweet Home takes a lot of pride in it’s setting, the house you wander (whilst small) is highly detailed with decor straight out of the Overlook Hotel, and the 70s backdrop allowing for a cool hazy rock soundtrack (also available for download). There’s some novel ideas too, like using a child’s light up toy ray-gun to light your path instead of a typical flashlight or camera. Subtle, and perhaps more mysterious than all out conventional horror, it’s these little touches that really work at drawing the player deeper in to the world. The story may be short, but those that make it to the end are almost certainly guaranteed to leave wanting more.

The Room is a terrifying low rez first-person horror game, in which you must navigate ten rooms, and use an Aliens-style motion detector to avoid invisible monster (well, invisible until it jumps out and scares the living daylights out of you anyway).

Needless to say The Room is a very jump scare filled experience, this is thanks the tense atmosphere the pant-wettingly terrifying monster that can spring out of thin air.  Highly recommended jump scare horror.
