Schweinballons, a charming, challenging, retro game made for the GBJam 4, has you throwing and kicking your floating pig-balloon son to aid you on your quest to find your lost sons.

Your sons have been kidnapped by evil wild boars. One fell out and was able to escape during the commotion, but the rest have been scattered around the land. It is up to you, and your only left son, to find the rest and bring them back home.

The one pig son you have left is quite useful. He follows you around and appears where you are, so no need to worry about keeping him in screen. This piglet is used to fight the wild boars or break bricks, by throwing or kicking him into them. He also can give you a boost up if you jump on top of his head. Catching and throwing your pig son is quite challenging, though after a while, you can master the controls. Will you be able to save all of your sons?

The Night That Speaks is a short, creepy and very stylish retro horror adventure that sees you exploring the catacombs under a graveyard, and trying to escape a freaky monster with your only defense being your ability to flip it the bird.

As you explore the maze-like labyrinth of the catacombs, you come across notes that help build the story and will eventually come face to face with a freaky unstoppable skeleton monster.  The only thing you can do to aid your escape from this monster is to flip it the bird, proving your courage and momentarily stopping the monster in it’s tracks.

The wonderful Game Boy-esque visual style conveys a surprising amount of detail and really draws you into the game, creating a tense retro-infused horror that you won’t want to flip the bird at.  Spooky stuff.

Dead Knight: Pocket Edition is a charming and super tough de-make of the up and coming Dead Knight game, in which you play a long dead knight who starts off as a pile of bones (without a head even) and slowly rebuild yourself to your former(ish) glory and defeat a deadly boss.

In Dead Knight: Pocket Edition you explore mysterious caverns packed with hidden secrets and deadly foes to vanquish.  You can only take a few of hits before you’ll die (again), so caution is advised when taking on enemies, and we’d really recommend taking the time to seek out equipment and coins it really will help you get a-head.

As we’ve come to expect from the games developer Backterria (creator of ROCKROCKET & The Aspect), the pixel art animation and chip tune audio are both fantastic, creating a great looking game that feels very much like an old school Game Boy game (but is actually far better than the humble Game Boy was capable of).  Also similar to Game Boy era gaming is the games difficulty, as you progress, you’ll gain body parts and equipment which should make things a little easier, but Dead Knight: Pocket Edition will really punish you for silly mistakes.

Dead Knight: Pocket Edition impresses with it’s wonderful pixel art animation, excellent audio and tough-as-nails old school gameplay.  If Dark Souls was a Game Boy game it would look and play a lot like this.

Omnibus is a chaotic driving game that puts you in control of unstoppable busses in a variety of bizarre scenarios – from guiding a giant firework through a field of pinball bumpers to skydiving through a skyscraper.

Featuring a charming Playstation 1 era graphical style and a wacky sense of humor, Omnibus is a fun game that revels in its chaos and destruction.  Your vehicle is unable to stop and gradually increases speed over time, which makes for some very tricky manoeuvring as you try and avoid obstacles.  The busses are pretty indestructible, but they are very easy to roll (especially at high speeds), and if you end up on your roof your four wheeled rampage will be over.

The Omnibus Alpha Demo is a blast to play and offers up a great selection of vehicles and gameplay modes across five different levels, all with unique objectives but all with one unifying theme – super silly bus driving mayhem!

Ravenous, Ravenous Ravens is a wonderfully chaotic pinball game in which you use a flock of ragdoll ravens as flippers.

The aim of the game is it hit the red and white bumpers with the balls.  There are a variety of tactics you can use to hit the bumpers - from carefully rolling balls up the side walls to hurling yourself wildly around the screen.  Hitting the bumpers with a ball releases eggs (which can be eaten for points) and random bonuses, such as more crows or cameo appearances from arcade classics such as Pac Man, Asteroids and Tetris.

Starting off fairly sedately with one raven and a few balls, the chaos soon ramps up as more objects and ravens are introduced to the proceedings.  It’s a silly, fun and oddly addictive game that proves that playing pinball isn’t quite as easy when your flippers are attached to a flock of ravenous ragdoll ravens!

Dimension Drifter, a platformer made for the MiniLD #59, has you exploring a multidimensional universe where entire tile-sets and sprite databases change in an instant.

In this fun platformer, everything changes at the end of each level. No two levels look or act the same. Each level has floating objects that can be collected, as well as an end door. Once you go through that ending door, the sprites for the game change. Even your character will receive a new look.

After many levels of exploring, collecting spinning objects, and seeing each level differently, you will start to discover new mechanics. Soon enemies appear that you can shoot - if you collect bullets to do so. Boxes appear that can disappear after being jumped on, moving blocks can be used to get up higher. There’s even a level editor so you can create your own unique levels yourself!  With so many different dimensions to go through, will you be able to beat this ever changing retro platformer?

Unending Bonus is a fun Tempest-esque vector based tunnel running shooter that sees you driving along edges to increase your multiplier then lifting off to blast objects for points.

Created by Adam Rezich, a student at the DigiPen Institute of Technology, the current build is more of a prototype, from which he plans to expand on someday.  The vector based visuals are superb and the tunnel running gameplay offers a few clever refinements of the classic Tempest gameplay.

As you travel down the unending tunnel, you must avoid red obstructions whilst blasting green triangles.   This is relatively easy at slower speeds, but to get a maximum score you must skirt along the edges to increase your velocity and increase your multiplier - allowing for some epic scores and epic speeds.

At the moment, Unending Bonus can be a little too easy once you get to grips with the controls, and would really benefit from an increase in speed and difficulty at lower multiplier levels.  But this is nothing that a ‘hard mode’ wouldn’t solve, and the vector based visuals, minimalistic electro soundtrack and fun gameplay already make Unending Bonus a joy to play.  Vectoriffic.
