Sony’s ambitious game streaming service - Playstation Now - is going into Open Beta tomorrow in North America on PS4.

100 games will be available at the start of the Open Beta, and while Sony did only had a rental only model for the closed beta, it’s a good bet that a subscription model will make an appearance at some point, with the service’s Senior Director Jack Buser recently announcing:

“We’re working diligently to bring a subscription option to gamers to compliment our rental offering for PlayStation Now.  We believe that offering both of these options would provide gamers the freedom to discover and play games in ways that weren’t before possible.”

Playstation Now is an interesting concept, and while while it may not quite match the quality of physical or downloadable games, it still has it’s merits.   If Sony get their pricing right and they have a strong enough infrastructure to support it, Playstation Now will be a welcome addition to Sony’s Playstation brand, especially when it hits Vita and Playstation TV.

Titan Souls is one of the indie games in development that were unveiled during Sonys E3 conference, now known to be coming to PS4, Vita, PC and Mac.  It’s a very tough, pixel art action adventure game that tasks you with taking down a variety of large Shadow Of the Colossus-style titans, armed only with a single arrow.

Needless to say it’s a very tough game, you’ll need to learn the titans attack patterns and use perfect timing to make your arrow hit the mark.  The pixel art graphical style is excellent, with the game playing like a super hard, one-hit-kill 2D Shadow of the Colossus Combat is a pretty tense affair, leaving you extremely vulnerable during the time it takes firing and retrieving your arrow.

The new gameplay footage revealed at E3 looks excellent, promising lots more Titans and building on the original Prototype that was created for Ludlum Dare #28, with the combat retaining it’s simple yet extremely tough nature (with a major change being that you can fire in more than 4 directions).  The Prototype is well worth checking out, it can be completed in under 20 minutes, but due to the amount of times you’ll die it’s likely to take much longer!

Beta Sign-Ups for Battlefield Hardline are now open, simply sign in with your Origin account and select your platform - PC & PS4 only at the moment but other versions may follow.

The site is under considerable load just now as EA have yet again failed to anticipate the demand, so you may have to be patient, but if you do sign up you’ll also unlock a weapon camo/skin, a sight and other additional content in Battlefield Hardline and a unique dog tag for Battlefield 4.

Battlefield Hardline is EAs latest in the series of Battlefield games, this time with a focus on law enforcement.  In multiplayer, the world is simple. You’re on one side of the law or the other — a baton or bat, stun gun or rifle, armored police truck or transport vehicle. But either way, teamwork is going to be essential if you’re going to want to pull off that perfect heist or big time bust.

Dark Deception may look like a horror game, but it’s actually Pac-Man, the creepiest, freakiest Pac-Man game you’re likely to play.

You’re tasked with roaming the corridors of the maps, collecting all the shards (Pac-Mans dots) to complete the level.  This is easier said than done though as it’s much harder to do from a first person perspective than a top-down view Not knowing where the enemies are means there are some real jump scares as enemies pop out from behind corners just in-front of you.

There is a story to the game, that’s something to do with you playing a cop on the run, but it doesn’t really matter, all you need to know about this game is that it is freaky first person Pac-Man and it’s great.

Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde were never this scary.

UPDATE:

Dark Deception has now launched it’s Kickstarter campaign.   The team have now been liscenced by Sony, so they’re pretty keen to bring it out on PS4 (and Project Morpheus) and Vita as well as PC.  They’ve enlisted one of the main character artists from Bioshock Infinite to overhaul their characters, making them even more creepy.  They’ve also employed the voice talent of Carolyn Seymour, who’s appeared on-screen in Congo and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but is probably best known as Queen Mirrah (Gears of War) and Dr Chakwas (Mass Effect).

As well as a wide range of tweaks, upgrades and improvements, some of the stretch goals include procedurally generated levels, new monsters, multiplayer, Mod support and an Xbox One version.  With all the graphical and sound improvements, as well as the promise of new monsters with every level, the scariest Pac-Man you’ve ever played is set to get a whole lot scarier…

Ran out of games to play on your PS4 already?  Fear not, you can take part in the Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn Beta!  The beta starts this weekend, and it’s looking rather gorgeous.

FFXIV had a rocky start when it released originally, but Square Enix have really worked on the game since then, and have created something that really deserves the Final Fantasy moniker.  The PS4 Beta has mouse & keyboard support, streaming support, PS Vita Remote play and looks stunning thanks to the upgraded, next gen graphics.
