Rise Of Incarnates is a great looking new fighting game from Bandai Namco (famed for the Tekken and SoulCalibur franchises) in which players take control if Incarnates with mythical powers and beat the crap out of each other in real-world cityscapes.

The back-story is a typically silly, but entertaining affair, and fittingly, some of it can be read in comic book for on the main website. The Incarnates are humans who have been gifted mythical powers by meteorites that fell from the sky, after that it goes a bit X-Men, with regular humans fearing them and Incarnates fighting among themselves. There’s also a mysterious voice that has spoken to the Incarnates, delivering a cryptic message “To avoid certain destruction, you must defeat the Sovereign of this era.”

With their own interpretations and reasons for fighting, the incarnates enter the fray. This means a multitude of super-powered characters beating each other up in 2 vs. 2 matches across some beautifully rendered and half-destroyed real world locations. The diverse character types are promised to have unique skills and powers and appeal to a variety of play-styles while accommodating expansive team dynamics and strategy in the 3D Battle Arenas.

Rise of Incarnates certainly looks very impressive, if the gameplay matches the visuals, this could be a super-human smackdown of epic proportions.

Light is a top-down minimalist stealth infiltration game with a focus (aside from stealth gameplay) on narrative to keep the action going. You are part of a scientific study and a procedure left your with short term memory loss. Further investigation reveals that there is something called ’Project Light’ and that all is not well. You must search for the answers that will help you piece together the fragmented memories of your past.

In Light, you infiltrate buildings, sneak your way through the guards and cameras, hack to open secured rooms and search for intel to help you figure out what is going on in ‘Project Light’. As in Metal Gear Solid, you’re best off dragging bodies away from plain sight once you’ve stunned or killed the guards as you don’t want to attract any unwanted attention.

The minimalistic visual style of Light is wonderful, feeling a little like you’re exploring the futuristic blueprints of a building with furnishings only appearing once they’re in your field of view. In development by Just a Pixel and published by Team 17, it’s a great stealth game with an interesting story and a clean, crisp visual style. Metal Square Solid.

Untold Universe is a Massively Multiplayer Sandbox where you’ll be able to travel through an infinite universe full of voxel based-planetoids for you to explore and exploit.

The small planets of Untold Universe look excellent, like Minecraft versions of Super Mario Galaxy’s or Universim’s planets. You’ll be able to gather resources from these planets and use them to build anything from factories to spaceships which you can use to explore the galaxy.

Untold Universe is still in early Alpha, so some features are still a little basic (especially the character models), but it will be constantly built on and improved, with the devs very keen to hear player feedback.

Cyber Heist an innovative, award winning co-operative stealth/hacking game that allows a hacker and a thief to work together to erase all student debts from the corrupt United States Department of Education of 2114.

The asymetric gameplay of Cyber Heist superb, with both players having completely different experiences but working together to achieve the same goals. One player plays as a hacker, viewed from a 2D top-down view, rerouting power to unlock doors, revealing sensitive information, and providing intel. The second player takes on the role of the theif, viewed from a 3D first person perspective and uses stealth, skill and intel from the hacker to avoid drone detection, recover passwords, and dupe the security detection system.

Cyber Heist is a game where co-operation really matters, more so than almost any other co-op game. A successful team is dependant on good communication and players working in unison. It’s an excellent experience and a worthy winner of 2014’s IGF Student Showcase award.

RATS is a charming cartoon-styled stealth game where the goal is to use stealth and speed to break into bank vaults and escape the level before the timer runs out.

You play as a sneaky rat burgler, trying to avoid the prowling cat guards throughout the levels. If one catches you it’s not game over, instead you’ll just lose some time on the level timer, you don’t want to get caught too many times though as every second counts in this game - once that counter reaches zero you’re busted. This ever-present time limit forces you to play the game differently to regular stealth games. Rather than wait until you’re sure the coast is clear you’re more likely to take chances - making for a more exciting arcade experience than your average stealth-em-up.

RATS is still early in development, and will have a lot more features added to it upon final release such as a choice of playable characters with special abilities, upgrades, tools, a hideout and pigs. It’s a little similar to Monaco, in that it’s a cross between Gauntlet and Pac-Man with a hint of Roguelike elements, but this seems a little less hectic and more speed orientated.

Damnatio is a chaotic new 2D multiplayer shooter with fully destructible environments, lots of weaponry, some very cool remote controlled machines and support for up to 32 players in one map.

It’s a fun game, with matches filled with carnage and destruction, especially when 32 players are on the same map. It also features different game modes, bots, a replay system and persistent statistics. The deadly remote controlled machines deserve a special mention, with you able to pilot choppers, predators, death orbs and mini dragons around the battlefield. Also the fully destructible terrain offers some unique strategies, with you able to dig tunnels and build traps for your opponents.

Damnatio works very well, it’s a bit like a game of Worms, but with 32 players and battles happening in real-time - and it’s every bit as chaotic and fun as that sounds. Alpha testing has just opened up for Damnatio, and the dev promises to give every alpha tester who leaves useful feedback a mention in the credits of the finished game.

Minimum is an awesome looking online third person shooter from Atari, with RTS and RPG elements where players must work together to develop a strategy to win. Teams fight over the world’s energy and use Titans to break down each other’s walls.

The Beta will feature the games primary game mode – Titan, a mode where each team has one Titan between them, players must gather resources by killing Creeps to power their teams Titan to victory. The goal of Titan Mode is to bring a fresh set of objectives and team strategies to the time honored tradition of arcade style shooters. It also promises epic battles with massive Titans bashing the crap out of each other. 2014 is certainly shaping up to be the year of the Titan!

Infectonator: Survivors is a Randomized Permadeath Survival Simulator that combines RTS, Tower Defense, Roguelike, and Management-Simulation gameplay. Your goal is to lead a group of survivors in a struggle to stay alive and find rescue in a zombie apocalyptic world. You must scavenge resources, build defenses, and find a way to survive in a game where death is permanent and levels are randomly generated.

The game features wonderful pixel art graphics, randomly generated cities and an XCOM-style permadeath system. You start out with 4 survivors, one equipped with a melee weapon and the others equipped with handguns. You then have to position your survivors to best defend themselves against waves of zombies, while also trying to scavenge resources and cash from nearby receptacles which can be used to fortify your defences with turrets.

Infectornator: Survivors is a wonderful mix of a variety of genres, with Zombie survival, RTS, Tower Defence and Roguleike elements mashed together and encased in a wonderful pixel art exterior. Surviving a zombie apocalypse shouldn’t be this fun.

Tricone Lab is a fun puzzle game where each level is a microscopic multicellular organism. You must utilise the different resources within the cell to create a substance called Tricone. This starts off very easily, but soon gets tougher as more catalysts and molecules get introduced, creating complex logic puzzles that require some experimentation.

The graphical style is pleasingly simple, with each multicellular organism reacting to your actions, and a fun, organic way of combining resources. Tricone Lab has a pick up and play quality that makes it great for short bursts of puzzle gaming – a fun organic puzzler that rewards lateral thinking.

PRISM is an old school top down arcade shoot-em-up with one game changing difference - you don’t shoot directly at the enemies, instead you shoot through a prism in the centre of the screen, which then spreads your shot out the other side. You can choose whether the shots go straight through the prism, or bounce off them like a mirror. This works well once you get used to it, as switching between normal fire and mirrored mode to dispose of enemies becomes second nature.

PRISM features clever enemy design, big bosses, retro visuals and a great soundtrack. It’s also hard, very hard in-fact, you’ll need quick thinking, quick reflexes and a bit of luck if you’re going to succeed in PRISM. It’s a game aimed squarely at hardcore shoot-em-up fans, and all the better for it.
