Star Wars Battlefront is now in Open Beta on PC, PS4 and Xbox One!

You can now download and play the Walker Assault on Hoth 40-player multiplayer battle, the Survival Mission on Tatooine and a third game mode called Drop Zone that takes place on Sullust.  You’ll also have the chance to play as two of the most iconic characters int he Star Wars franchise - Luke and Darth Vader.

As it’s an EA game it’s pretty much guaranteed there will be a few bugs and connectivity issues during the first day or two, but just hang in there, the force may be strong with this one (even it the servers are weak!)

Rodinia War offers a unique blend of 2D strategy simulation and 3D MMORPG in which you build a mighty empire in the world map and fight and complete missions in third person open world action sequences.

The strategy side of Rodinia War allows players to create a hometown, manage resources, conquer cities, forge alliances and build a massive empire.  While the 3D open world combat sections allow players to take their knights on missions, gaining experience and reaping rewards.  There are five knight classes, and developing them is a key feature in the game, as they’re not only good in combat, but have uses in ruling the kingdom too.

Rodina War’s novel blend of playstyles looks like it will have something for everybody, offering an MMORPG with exciting combat and plenty of strategic depth.

Sony’s ambitious game streaming service - Playstation Now - is going into Open Beta tomorrow in North America on PS4.

100 games will be available at the start of the Open Beta, and while Sony did only had a rental only model for the closed beta, it’s a good bet that a subscription model will make an appearance at some point, with the service’s Senior Director Jack Buser recently announcing:

“We’re working diligently to bring a subscription option to gamers to compliment our rental offering for PlayStation Now.  We believe that offering both of these options would provide gamers the freedom to discover and play games in ways that weren’t before possible.”

Playstation Now is an interesting concept, and while while it may not quite match the quality of physical or downloadable games, it still has it’s merits.   If Sony get their pricing right and they have a strong enough infrastructure to support it, Playstation Now will be a welcome addition to Sony’s Playstation brand, especially when it hits Vita and Playstation TV.

Velvet Sundown is a very different type of role-playing game, a game where you actually take on the role of the character - a guest on a luxury yacht - with you and four other players building a  45 minute long story.

Each time you play Velvet Sundown you’ll be set up with a new identity for you to embody, interacting and chatting with other players, using charm and charisma to convince other players to follow your suggestions, allowing you to fulfil your objectives.   Whether you’re a journalist, playboy, businessman or international spy, you each have your own objectives which can only be achieved with social interactions with other players.

Chatting is facilitated through a text-to-chat system, which means that everyone sounds a bit like Siri, but also means that there are no preformed conversation paths, you can say whatever you want to whoever you want.  This allows for some wonderful free-form story-crafting, with love, scandal and espionage all commonplace on this luxury yacht.  Much like our recently featured Storium, Velvet Sundown is a game that thrives on social interaction and creativity, as such, if you’re playing with the right people it can be a blast.

Transformers Universe is a 3rd person MOBA that pits Autobots against Decepticons in heated battles of metallic carnage.

The game looks wonderful, with the 3rd person perspective and the ability to transform adding new dimensions to the normal MOBA formula.  There are also plenty of customisation options available, allowing you to modify your mighty metallic warrior to match your play style.  It may be another MOBA in a market that’s reaching saturation point, but Transformers Universe has a surprising amount of fresh ideas.  These robots in disguise are more than meets the eye.

The Open Beta starts today (July 4th) and this weekend they’re going to be celebrating with a double XP weekend, a 24-hour live Twitch stream (11am EDT July 5 - 11am EDT July 6) and $75,000 in prizes to be won.

Doom Warrior is a great looking arena combat game that pits you in 1 on 1 battles against an array of vicious opponents, gargantuan bosses and online opponents.   As you progress you’ll gain riches, power and glory, with randomised loot drops and a levelling system that has no limit to how powerful you can become.

The game plays a lot like Infinity Blade, timing your attacks and defending blows from opponents.  This will probably translate better onto touch screen devices as it is just button presses on the PC version.  Players log on and can play against other players avatars or computer opponents, defeating them, levelling up and unlocking new areas on the map.

It’s an interesting and satisfyingly violent game that will probably be rather successful on mobile devices.  It’s also worth noting that the game features quite a lot of large breasted topless ladies, so if you’re offended by nudity, it’s probably best steering clear of this game.

Update: Doom Warrior is now in Open Beta, Play now for free.

Sentinel Heroes is a tactical turn based strategy RPG inspired by Warcraft that features deep gameplay, an interesting story, online battles and some very nicely animated characters and attacks.

As you progress you’ll recruit legendary heroes, build teams, and fight against players from all over the world.  It features various gameplay modes, including a novel King of the Hill-style mode called ‘Knockout’, where you claim a throne and try to defend it as long as possible, earning larger rewards the longer you manage to hold it.

The gameplay is pretty intuitive and offers plenty of tactical depth, while also being visually impressive thanks to some cool special moves and nice character design.  Players that take part during the Open Beta will also be able to claim 8 special gift packs and enter competition events to win prizes.
