Games of Glory is a great looking new sci-fi MOBA with non-stop run-and-gun action, a Call of Duty-style perk system and a persistent Universe which is affected by the outcome of each battle.

Players work together, battling opponents via various game modes, utilising abilities, perks and a customisable arsenal to their advantage.  There are no lane phases or auto-attack in Games of Glory, making for a more FPS-esque skill based experience than your typical MOBA.

It’s an interesting take on the MOBA genre, adding guns and FPS elements to the usual tropes makes for a refreshing experience.  Welcome to Call of MOBA.

Submerge is a fast paced multiplayer tactical survival game that blends the Hero Unit focus of DotA with the tactical fighting and movement of StarCraft.

Battles feature aquatic organisms battling each other in a beautiful aquatic world to steal ‘life time’ points, with up to 16 players face off against each other and the last survivor being crowned the winner.  Each player controls a small squad of units with unique abilities, chosen before the start of the battle, allowing you to craft a powerful squad of aquatic soldiers.

Still very early in development, Submerge is certainly an intriguing concept - A MOBA-esque game that doesn’t focus on team tactics.  It’ll be a refreshing change, since MOBAs hit the scene, lone wolves haven’t really been catered for (and your team mates can’t shout at you when you screw up!)

Supernova - a hardcore futuristic Sci-Fi MOBA from Bandai Namco, that pits humans versus cyborgs in fast paced and competitive play.

With so many MOBA released lately keen to dumb down to make themselves accessible to as wide a market as possible, it’s refreshing to see a MOBA aimed squarely at the hardcore MOBA fan.  This can be a little overwhelming at first, but stick with it and you’ll find a deeply strategic game, that rewards tactical play and skill.

There’s a lot of depth to Supernova, with a large array of powerful commanders at your disposal, from mech pilots to mercenaries, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.  You can also strategically deploy and outfit lane units, manage technologies, upgrades, and the order of builds, making for a game that’s just as much about strategic thinking as it is about skill.

Wind of Luck: Arena is a free-to-play, online multiplayer naval battle game dedicated to the age of sail warships.

Take on the role of a commander or pirate captain, partaking in brutal team vs team sea battles, unlocking new upgrades and a ton of new ships.  You can even fully customise your ship with a variety of weaponry, sails, flags and achievement symbols.  It features three ship progression trees reflecting three different shipbuilding styles – Caribbean (classic European square-rigged ships), Mediterranean (galleys and lateen-rigged ships) and East Asian (Junks and Turtle ships).

Wind of Luck: Arena is still early in development and missing a few features, but the battles are fun (a little like a slow paced MOBA) and it’s well worth checking out if you’re a fan of ye olde warship battles.

SMITE is very cool mythology themed 3rd person MOBA that pits Gods against each other in epic arena based combat.

Perspective is everything in SMITE.  Pitting the likes of Thor, Hercules and Poseidon against each other, the overall goals are similar to DoTA or LoL, but the 3rd person perspective adds a sense of immediacy and spectacle to the proceedings.  Also, the change of viewpoint allows players to sneak up behind other players and smite em hard while they’re not looking!

SMITE may be yet another MOBA, but it’s certainly not just another MOBA.  In fact, this could easily become the 3rd big MOBA, alongside DoTA and League of Legends.  A satisfying 3rd person brawler that offers a great 3rd way to experience the MOBA genre.

RUiN is a fast-paced, top-down multiplayer online battle arena inspired by the Warcraft III mod, Warlock, in which you and your team members work together  to fight your opponents and bash them out of the arena.

You, your teammates, and your enemies are thrown into a shrinking circular arena where you battle it out using your abilities to damage and push other players, trying to get them outside of the arena where massive damage is dealt.  It may look a bit like a MOBA, but it’s more like Sumo wrestling with special powers or a top-down Super Smash Bros.  Either way it looks like great fun, playing it certainly won’t RUiN your day!

Total War: Arena is a free-to-play spin-off of the hugely popular Total War franchise that will allow you to play as famous historical leaders in epic 10v10 online battles.

For theses 10v10 battles, each player chooses a leader from a list including Alexander the great, Caesar and Leonidas and commands three blocks of military units.  It also features a deep progression system, with the ability to level up your commanders and units with new upgrades and abilities.

Total War: Arena looks set to offer deep tactical gameplay designed specifically for multiplayer.  Much like a MOBA, teamwork and superior tactical planning will be crucial to the outcome of the battles – lone wolves are destined to perish.

Dead Island: Epidemic is a fun multiplayer hack and slash arena bawler with tons of zombies and lots of comically excessive brutality.  At it’s core is a MOBA, but don’t expect the sombre, structured gameplay of DOTADead Island: Epidemic is is more about chaotic multiplayer hack and slash action than strategic combat.

Dead Island: Epidemic features two core modes – allowing you to either team up with 3 other survivors and take on the zombie menace together in PvE co-op Crossroads mode, or take the fight to other players in a three-team “PvPvPvE” Scavenger mode where you’ll battle it out in a competition to grab supplies, hold key points, outsmart the competition and blast through hordes of zombies.

With pick-up-and play gameplay, nice visuals and over the top cartoony violence, Dead Island: Epidemic is certainly worth giving a go if you’d like a crack on a MOBA, but are baffled by all the advanced strategy (or if you just want to decapitate some zombies).

Blizzard have announced more Alpha Sign-Ups for Heroes Of The Storm,  their impressive new MOBA that allows you to play as characters from all your favourite Blizzard games, from Diablo to StarCraft.

The game has a host of exciting features, such as battlegrounds affecting the gameplay, mercenary camps, Towns, some campaign style map modes, lots of customisation options and mounts.  They’re also drawing on their entire back catalogue for characters, including Diablo, WoW, StarCraft and Warcraft, which should bring some character to the MOBA genre, and you can also expect that high level of polish that Blizzard bring to their games.

As well as signing up for the Alpha, there’s also another way to get your hands on Heroes Of The Storm.  Players who are already in the Alpha are allowed to ‘bring their friends to the brawl’ once they reach level 20.  So maybe now’s the time to ‘encourage’ your mate to play a little more of this fine looking MOBA!

Shards of War is an intense, fast-paced combat MOBA with WASD controls for tight manoeuvrability, shiny visuals and a cool dystopian Sci-fi setting.

As with most MOBAs, the rules are simple: Two teams of five players attempting to destroy the enemy base, fighting enemy drones, turrets and warriors over short 20 minute rounds.  The big difference here is the WASD control scheme, which allows for more intense battles, with fast paced battles more akin to a shooter than a MOBA.

With Shards of War ditching the traditional fantasy setting for Sci-fi, short matches and the WASD control scheme, it feels like a welcome breath of fresh air in a rapidly stagnating and overpopulated genre.  It’s a fun Shooter/MOBA hybrid – a SMOBA if you will.
