Reset is a gorgeous first person sci-fi noir puzzle adventure in which pilot a mech that can record and playback versions of yourself, co-operating with yourself to solve large open-world puzzles.

To record yourself you simply press ‘R’ and carry out your actions, then press ‘R’ again – when you press ‘R’ the second time you’ll reset back to where you started the recording and your duplicate will start to ‘play’, allowing you to work alongside and co-operate with yourself.

Even in these early stages of development it impresses with its fantastic visuals and core gameplay mechanics.  A smart sci-fi noir adventure with beauty and brains.

Mecha Trigger is the worlds only first person typing mech game.   There’s a very good reason why this is the only one – it’s ridiculously hard to controlbut that’s the whole point.

Although the striking visual style and spectacular explosions of Mecha Trigger will attract many, this is not for casual gamersonly the hardcore need apply.  Indeed it’ll take a bit of patience just to figure out how to walk forward.  However, once you’ve mastered the type-to-move control scheme, Mecha Trigger is a blast, full of (perhaps not fast paced, but) wonderfully chaotic battles full of colourful explosions and frantic typing.

With singleplayer challenges, online multiplayer and even Oculus Rift support, Mecha Trigger is great fun once you’ve mastered it’s wonderfully complex controls.  That said, if you ever come across a mech walking around in circles, firing at the ground in an online match, that’ll most likely be me.

Beyond Flesh and Blood is a post-apocalyptic story-led 3rd person action/shooter, featuring huge metal endoskeletons battling across the decaying city of Manchester (UK).

Gameplay in the Pre-Alpha Demo blends 3rd person shooting (horde mode especially) with tower defense as you fight off wave after wave of attacking enemies while trying to power-up your defenses.  Your mighty mech packs some serious firepower, but you’ll have to activate radio towers in order to extend your range.  You can also power-up turrets and barriers in order to fend off your attackers.  There’s a nice selection of weaponry and enemies to fight, and some satisfyingly gory slow-mo shots for the last kill of every wave.

The full game of Beyond Flesh and Blood promises far deeper gameplay than the current build, with large scale battles, the ability to upgrade your mech, strategic puzzles, and immersive story that tackles themes of dehumanisation, political instability and environmental disaster.  The Pre-Alpha Demo doesn’t incorporate any of this story though, so it’s very easy to just pretend you’re a Terminator defending SkyNet from pesky humans - which is great fun.  Death to John Connor!

Black Gold Online is a very pretty new Steam-punk/Fantasy MMORPG with fast paced gameplay, massive enemies, huge battles and Mechs.

It seems like a lot of fun, but don’t just take our word for it, check out what Canadian punk-pop pixie Avril Lavigne has to say about it in this rather odd promo video for the Asian release.  To be honest, we don’t have a clue what “Desired Black Gold, the double temptation” means, we’re guessing it means “We’ve paid you a s**t load of money and couldn’t afford a decent translator, just read the F***ing script Avril”.

Anyway, the game genuinely does looks like a lot of fun, with plenty of customisation options, Dwarfs, Giants, Vampires, large scale battles, Mechs and lots of vehicles, all wrapped up in a beautiful steam-punk/fantasy setting.  As Avril says “That’s a new world we are waiting for!

Modulated is a Mech Arena combat simulator, that allows you to build, customize and upgrade your own mech, then and bring it to the arena to smash or be smashed.   It’s still in early alpha, but already the customisation options are impressive, with your choices really having an impact on how you play the game.

As it’s a Mech sim, the combat is suitably slower than your average 3rd person brawler, allowing for mare tactical combat, and blows really seeming to have weight when they connect.  With the building, customisation options and tactical arena based combat, it’s basically Robot Wars with mechs, better weapons and more fun.
