Sky Battles is a fun arcade-style dogfighting game with nice looking visuals, fun gameplay and online multiplayer.  The single player campaign looks pretty spectacular, pitting you against massive lumbering enemies, while the multiplayer is great for a quick fix of aerial combat.  Sky Battles is in development for iOS and Android, but you can play the multi-player Alpha in a Unity supported Browser now.

Wayward is a fun turn-based, top-down, wilderness survival roguelike inspired by Ultima Online, Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft.  It features open-ended open-world gameplay, an extensive skill system, 200 items to craft and interact with, around 20 creatures to do battle with,  procedurally generated worlds with 5 distinct environments.  It’s great fun exploring the world as you’re never sure what you’ll find, it’s a bit like a turn based Don’t Starve, with a touch of Minecraft and charming retro 16-bit visuals.

Pilotlight is a fun retro touch/mouse based platformer that tasks you with racing through levels as fast as you can, destroying fuel containers on your way.  It’s a tricky, but fun game, with the touch/mouse based controls working surprisingly well.  The levels are well designed and challenging, reminiscent of Super Meat Boy, but touch based and sporting some nice particle effects.

The Universim is a great looking new planet management game, where you’ll nurture your civilisation from stone-age, to modern age and beyond.  As your civilisation progresses they’ll face challenges from animal attacks to virus outbreaks, to earthquakes and meteors.  Surviving these challenges is reliant on research and new technologies, from fire to space ships.

While you will not interact directly with the population that inhabits your planet, you will be able to guide them through their development and influence their decisions for better or worse. Choices in the game extend from ending wars between cities on your planet or watching as one city destroys the other, to influencing the research path of your civilization.

The games visual style is superb, looking like Sim City set on Super Mario Galaxys worlds.  With the landscape of your planet continually changing as you evolve your civilisation.  You’ll even be able to explore and colonise other planets once you’ve mastered space travel.

NeonXSZ is a great new space combat game, inspired by Descent and Quake, with RPG elements such as loot, levelling and upgrades.  Gameplay is fast paced and fun, with ships remarkably agile and handling similarly to Descent, while combat feels more like Quake.  You start off with fairly weak fire-power, but as you upgrade your ship, you’ll become a force to be reckoned with.

The customisation and upgrade system in NeonXSZ is particularly impressive, with dozens of ships to choose from and over 700 Upgrades available through loot drops and trading, you’ll be able to make your ship truly unique.

NeonXSZ is an excellent slice of space combat, that takes the Descent formula and adds so much more.  It also offers a massive amount of re-playability thanks to the world, upgrades and enemy AI, all being completely procedurally generated.

The game is currently on Steam Greenlight, and only needs another 2000 votes to get Greenlit.  There will also be a big update to the game soon, which will add lots of new environments and challenge arenas that you can gain control of once you beat challenging, scripted battles.

Radical Heroes is a great looking 2.5D side-scrolling beat-em-up, reminiscent of classics like Double Dragon and River City Ransom.

It looks fantastic thanks to the 2D retro Sprites in a 3Dish (slightly-less-retro-but-still-pretty-damn-retro) world.  It also features Oculus Rift support, but be warned, the mixture of 2D, 2.5D and 3D may make your eyes implode.

The fighting is fairly basic but great fun, with extreme close-up finishers, weapons and objects scattered around the levels, boss fights, the ability to enter shops to buy items and upgades, even the ability to hire back-up from a Robocop lookalike.  There are also a huge amount of unlockable characters, mostly with tongue-in-cheek references to classic movies and games, with Ultra Lad (Mega Man), Street Commando (Rambo) and Robo Kid (Terminator) all making an appearance.

Radical Heroes is shaping up to be a great slice of retro nostalgic fun, it’s big dumb fun, exactly what a side-scrolling beat-em up should be!

Blue Saga is a new pirate themed MMORPG with gorgeous retro 2D graphics that’s inspired by Dark Souls, Pokemon and the One Piece anime.  It’s a great game, with a huge world to explore, by land or by sea, some interesting characters, and a wide variety of monsters to battle in real-time.

It’s a great game with lots of character, it’s a bit like the legend of Zelda, but you can play it online with friends and features some mighty fine pixel-art.

KeeperRL is a Dungeon Keeper and Dwarf Fortress inspired dungeon simulator with roguelike mechanics, where you play as a Sauron-like character, searching for ultimate knowledge of destruction.

It’s a great game with charming retro visuals, deep gameplay mechanics, procedurally generated worlds, and even features a story based adventure mode.  The dungeon building is excellent and reminiscent of Dungeon Keeper, there’s a real sense of progress as you build and upgrade your lair.  The turn based battle system is great fun too, with you controlling your main character and leading your minions into war, sporting a variety of scrolls, spells, potions and equipment.

Powargrid is a fun turn based strategy game that focuses on power supply and disruption.  You build out from your power station, building a powergrid, then add attack towers to attack and destroy the enemies structures.

In all cases power is key, you need to protect your power stations, while trying to reach across the map and destroy the enemies.  As well as transporting energy, power lines come in handy for blocking build paths, while cannons and towers are great for attacking enemy structures.  It’s great fun to play and makes for some very strategic battles.

Powargrid also features a campaign mode with a nice sense of humour, online or hotseat multiplayer and skirmish battles against computer opponents.
