The game teaches you the basics of how to Build and protect your colony and take care of the colony you have created.  Everything you do has a consequence, for instance, pollution impacts your food production and buildings can have a positive or negative affect when placed next to each other.  There are also disasters in the game like wildfires, dying forests, growing deserts to make thing a bit trickier.  Also, as you work for an interstellar corporation, you have to achieve profit goals, meaning there’s a balancing act between increasing profit and the health of your community.

Quantum Rush is a great looking futuristic arcade racer, in a similar vein as WipEout and F-Zero, but with gigantic tracks, online comunity features and fully customisable/upgradable ships with unique special abilities.

The ships all handle well, and hurtle around at break-neck speeds, it also features WipEout-style power-ups scattered across tracks, which makes for some pretty hectic multiplayer races.  The tracks are also all well designed, and with plenty of variety, whether your hurtling around a futuristic cityscape or a dusty canyon, it’s consistently visually engaging.  It’s a great futuristic racer, that’s very fast, very pretty, and lots of fun.

The Developers are planning on hosting a Devs Vs Beta Tester Tournament tomorrow.  All you have to do (once you’re in the Beta) to take part in this event is to log in and join matchmaking for Death Race on tier 1 at Friday, 21/3/2014, at 4:00 p.m. (CET).  For the YouTubers amongst you, you’re all allowed to record the event and publish videos about it as you see fit.

Spirit is a wonderful pixel art game where you’ll stroll through the beautiful landscapes and uncover the long forgotten past of an ancient temple.  Featuring an art style and gameplay reminiscent of Swords & Sworcery EP, it’s a side scrolling adventure where you play a retired old man who’s intrigued by stories of a nearby mysterious temple.  He sets of on an adventure find the temple and it soon becomes apparent that “Something magical awaits you beyond this world”.

Having already surpassed it’s $4000 Kickstarter goal by almost $3000, Spirit is well on it’s way to it’s stretch goal of $8000, which is to make a full on sequel to Spirit as soon as they’ve finished making the first game.  It’s an ambitious stretch goal but Spirit certainly deserves it’s kickstarter success, it’s a charming game, full of character, humour, warmth  and beauty.

Please Be Nice :( is a free game which allows the first person to beat the current build to submit a feature they want added to the game.  This feature will then be added and the cycle will restart.

Now in it’s 98th cycle, as you can imagine people have requested some very outlandish additions, such as “giant star boss, wearing googly eyed pants” to “add bird jesus”.  Since it’s inception the game has morphed from a from a very simple, get from point A to point B on a single screen game, to a multicoloured fever dream where you can control the horned-head of Nicholas Cage in a top down shooter, firing turtles and being rewarded with a picture of a big cat when you reach the end of a level.

It’s a fantastic experiment, and will probably never make a great game, but that’s not the point.  It’s more about the experience, watching a game evolve over time and laughing at some of the ridiculous additions that have been requested and implemented.

Obsidian are certainly busy at the moment as well as SCi-Fi Fantasy MMO Skyforge, they’re also set to take on World of Tanks with their new Military MMO.  Armored Warfare is a new massively multiplayer online tactical military video game that allows you to drive general purpose combat vehicles, to battle tanks, and long-range high-powered artillery.

You’ll be able to build your private military arsenal as you gain more combat experience, establishing relationships with other corporations, contractors and non-government suppliers.  Obsidian plans to constantly update the game throughout it’s lifecycle, adding new vehicles, upgrades, and maps on a regular basis.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Armored Warfare though is that the all the maps and scenarios will have destructible environments.  This should add another layer of strategy and complexity to the game as the terrain changes throughout matches, and more importantly it’s just great fun blowing stuff up!

Black Ice is an excellent hacking-based cyberpunk roguelike FPS RPG set in a computer mainframe, with Tron-like neon visuals and lots of Diablo-style loot.

We first covered Black Ice around 6 months ago when it was in Alpha, but with the newly gameplay improvements and the start of the Steam Greenlight campaign, we thought it time for an update.

When you start the game, you are surrounded by a variety of relatively easy to hack coloured servers, but stray further afield and things can get much tougher.  Walk up to a server and right click to start hacking and a load of nasty minions will spill out of it and start attacking you.  Complete the hack to earn XP and collect some lovely loot to aid your future Hacking attempts.  The final goal of the game is to find and hack the biggest server of them all to release an imprisoned AI.  You’ll need to level up your character considerably before you take it on though as it’s incredibly tough.

Since we covered it originally, they’ve implemented a quick but very useful tutorial section that helps to get the player started.  There are also plenty of new weaponry (allowing for billions of weapon combinations), multiplayer, a hardcore (YOLO) made, better graphics, hundreds of other gameplay tweaks and the S.H.A.R.K. (a badass boss character that’s very hard to kill).

Black Ice is a thoroughly enjoyable FPS roguelike, with a great art style and an addictive quality that pushes you to just do ‘one more hack’.  Highly Recommended.

WizardWizard is a challenging indie platformer with tight controls and a great soundtrack.  Similar to Super Meat Boy, it’s got short but tricky levels and the ability to restart quickly.  It’s an enjoyable little game with plenty of charm, thanks to the beautifully crafted pixel-art graphics and a nice sense of humour.

With only 25 levels, it’s a short, hard, precision platformer.  Your wizards only power may be that he can jump, but he certainly does it well!

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow comes Today is beautifully crafted 2D sci-fi point and click adventure inspired by The Secret of Monkey IslandBroken SwordDay of the Tentaclebut has a more mature theme, similar to I have no mouth and I must Scream or Sanitarium.

It features a classic point and click interface, a mature and dark storyline set in a dystopian sci-fi world, an excellent soundtrack and a beautiful, stylish hand drawn art style.  It really does feel like a classic old-school point and click adventure (albeit with prettier visuals).  Featuring a puzzle style that will be familiar to anyone who has played a good point and click adventure before, with well thought out, logical solutions.

The world and storyline of Dead Synchronicity deserve special mention, with the world in a state of decay after it was his by something called ‘the great wave, which destroyed all energy sources and communications, plunging the world into disarray.  Worse still, a terrible disease is sweeping the population, turning them into ‘the Dissolved’, making them delirious, giving them supernatural powers and eventually killing them.

Throughout this, you play as Michael, a man who can’t remember his past, who’s trying to uncover what happened to the world, and eventually stop time itself from dissolving.  It’s an intriguing storyline and a great looking game, full of interesting characters and ideas, and a level of maturity rarely seen in games.

Age of Ascent (AoA) is a great looking new space-based sandbox MMO, that is so big, that they’re planning on breaking EVE Online’s Guinness World Record (4070 concurrent pilots fighting) by staging the largest PvP battle ever seen.

As if that wasn’t enough, they’re planning to beat EVE Online’s record with the battle taking place in a single, continuous unsharded battlezone, all in real time (EVE uses time dilation).  If Age of Ascent manages to pull it off, this will be the MMO equivalent of beating an opponent blindfolded, with your arms tied behind your back, while balancing a tea-cup on your head.

The Alpha test will be for the PvP component only, but the devs promise that  the full game will include exploration (in a map of our real galaxy), a completely player-driven economy, PvE missions, modular ship designs, space station construction and management, and all the alliance organisational tools you’ll need.

To top thing off, although the game looks pretty spectacular, it will play on any browser (Other than Safari), and doesn’t require the installation of any game data or plug-ins.  All you have to do is turn up at the website on March the 14th, where you’ll be assigned a side, jump straight in and take part in a world record breaking battle!

Just a reminder, the World Record attempt will be happening today, everyone’s invited! – March 14th from 7pm GMT / 3pm Eastern / 12 noon Pacific!
