Titan Souls is a superb super-hard, one hit kill 2D blend of Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus that requires precision timing and skill to evade death.

We first covered the Game Jam version of Titan Souls last year.  Since then, development has continued and the game is due for full release on the 14th of April on Windows, Mac, PS4 and Vita.  To give a taster of the exquisite pain to come, the devs have released Titan Souls: Prototype Redux, a recreation of the three titan fights from the original Game Jam version, but in the gorgeous new engine.

Needless to say Titan Souls is still ridiculously tough, which can lead to some rather comical deaths as your little hero is flattened in an instant by the deadly Titans, but it also leads to some very enjoyable gameplay that rewards skill and perseverance.  Titan Souls will certainly show you what you’re made of (and leave it flattened on the floor).

Bloodborne is the new game by From Software, makers of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls - fantastic games which beat you to a pulp while you thanked them for it.  Bloodborne looks set to continue this tradition, utilising the power of the new consoles to great effect, making for a far more visceral and blood filled experience.

Bloodborne will be a Action RPG with stunningly detailed gothic environments and challenging gameplay.  Early gameplay footage shows off co-op multiplayer, fantastic character design, large mobs of enemies and faster, more flowing combat than we’ve seen in the Souls games.   The combat still promises to be deeply strategic though - you’ll need your wits around you to survive in Bloodborne.

Much like the Souls games, Bloodborne looks set to kick your ass, but at least this time you can say you were distracted by how pretty it is!

Reliquary is a roguelike futuristic action rpg focused on exploration, survival, and dying a lot.  Stranded in a procedurally generated asteroid field riddled with derelict ships and bizarre creatures, you’ll need to survive countless perils in your search for a way home.

It’s a great game, with a fun combat system influenced by Vlambeers Nuclear Throne, challenging gameplay influenced by Spelunky and Demon’s Souls, a very cool minimalistic soundtrack, challenging gameplay, upgrades, boss fights, a wonderful pixel art graphical style and procedurally generated level design.

The Alpha demo gives you access to the whole of the first area of the game, the first boss fight and free rein of the crashed spacecraft that acts as a base of operations for your intrepid explorer.  You’ll have to clear four procedurally generated levels to reach the boss fight, which is easier said than done.

As you can imagine by the games it’s been influenced by, Reliquary is no walkover, ammo is scarce and some of the enemies can be pretty devastating.  You’ll have to fight smart if you’re going to survive this space oddity.

Blue Saga is a new pirate themed MMORPG with gorgeous retro 2D graphics that’s inspired by Dark Souls, Pokemon and the One Piece anime.  It’s a great game, with a huge world to explore, by land or by sea, some interesting characters, and a wide variety of monsters to battle in real-time.

It’s a great game with lots of character, it’s a bit like the legend of Zelda, but you can play it online with friends and features some mighty fine pixel-art.

Cornerstone is an open world action adventure game inspired by Viking culture, The Legend of Zelda games (Wind Waker most notably) and Dark souls that has achieved it’s kickstarter goal and has been Greenlit on Steam.

Cornerstone encourages exploration.  The world is structured similar to Wind Waker with a series of islands connected within vast ocean with almost every areas is accessible from the start.  You travel between islands on a (fast travel enabled) boat and explore these islands you will discover useful tools and abilities to help you on your upcoming challenges.

Game progression doesn’t revolve around increasing stats and gathering XP.  You explore the world in a nonlinear way, with some areas locked off until you have the correct equipment, as in a zelda game.

Although we’ve mentioned Zelda a lot, Cornerstone is very much its own game and not simply a Zelda rip-off.  The likeable main character (Tyrim) has plenty of character and it’s a joy to explore the beautifully crafted world.
