The Sandbox 2 is the sequel to the popular pixel-art world builder - The Sandbox (with 16 million downloads) - in which you take on the role of a ‘Deity Apprentice’ with the power to create and destroy your own little world from a variety of building blocks.

You have the power to create and destroy, to build forrests packed with life then burn them down.  You can utilise a wide selection of resources, from water and soil, to zombies and dinosaurs, combining items to create new resources, from mud (water + sand) to complex electrical circuits.

The Sandbox 2 allows players to build worlds ten times larger than the original, with four times the resolution (though still charmingly blocky), 100 elements to play around with, improved physics and a day & night cycle.  It’s an impressive game that allows you to build your own living pixel art world in the palm of your hands.  Become a pixel god!

Bonseki is a minimalistic physics based puzzler, in which you shift gravity to make fire, sand, water and wood interact with each other in unique ways to eliminate each other.

The different colored elements have distinct physical properties and interact with each other in different ways – water extinguishes fire, fire burns wood and sand, water grows wood, and sand soaks up water.  You shift the gravity in different directions in order to cause these elements to move and react with and eliminate each other.

It’s a refinement of the excellent Ludum Game Jam creation Less Is More, and much like it’s predecessor, Bonseki impresses with it’s minimalist, physics-based take on the puzzle genre.  It’s the sort of game that’s fun to play and fun to play around with too, watching on as the various elements, move, flow and interact with each other in interesting ways.  A great play-toy and a unique physics-based puzzler that encourages experimentation.

Post Replica is an intriguing new D&D style roleplaying game that uses a mobile app (or internet connected computer) to connect players all around the world, sharing and affecting what happens on tables across countries.

As in D&D, Post Replica is played with players sitting around the table, rolling dice, with one of them acting as a dungeon master.  What happens around the table doesn’t just affect your game though, it affects the greater global game, impacting what happens on tables around the world.  As well as this global connectedness, the app also procedurally generates rumors, letters for individual characters and adventure hooks - all of which tie into the greater story.

The story also sounds interesting, set in a future when androids have become self aware and attempting to live amongst humanity.  But tensions are high and battles ensue due to a handful of murderous androids with corrupt programming.

With it’s promise of linking players globally and locally, Post Replica is an impressive evolution of the D&D formula.  An ambitious roleplaying game that looks set to offer gameplay on a global scale.

Army of Pixels is a super fun mix of tower defense and strategy that plays like a more offence-orientated take on Plants vs Zombies.

Players start each level with a small amount of cash to purchase units of varying attributes, then unleash them on the battlefield in formations.  You gather cash and mana each round which can be used to purchase more units and unleash devastating special attacks.

The dev plans to add a lot more features to the game with an aim of adding a bit more variety in the missions played across the world map.  But even in the Beta, Army of Pixels impresses with its excellent pixel art animation, variety in units and addictive core gameplay.  Super fun lane-based strategic warfare.

Survive is a tough little wilderness survival game, played out entirely on a single options menu.

You must survive and travel as far as possible through the wild terrain, battling freezing cold conditions and hunger.  Gameplay is fairly straight-forward, with you building camps, gathering firewood, fishing, lighting fires and resting - all while trying to move as far from your original location as possible.

It’s a very tricky balancing act, with no room for error.  Spend too long fishing when you should be gathering firewood and you’ll be a human popsicle in no time!
