Pre-Alpha Sign Ups have re-opened for EVE: Valkyrie – a fantastic looking first person online multiplayer space dog fighting built specifically for VR hardware, including Oculus Rift and Sony’s Playstation VR.

It’s a beautiful looking 360-degree action combat game based in the EVE universe that we first featured during the first sign up phase in March.  It’s an enticing prospect, with epic EVE online-style battles, all viewed from the cockpit of your own personal fighter.  Pre-Alpha sign-up have now re-opened, you’ll need an Oculus Rift to play, but EVE: Valkyrie is certainly the game worth buying one for!

Late Night Shop is a terrifying first person horror in which you must escape from evil mannequins that move and stalk you whenever you’re not looking.

Compatible with standard screens or Oculus Rift (and far more terrifying on Rift), Late Night Shop uses the same freaky scare technique as Five Nights At Freddy’s and the Weeping Angels in Doctor Who for some truly pant wetting frights.  Played entirely in first person (even the menu screen), you venture through a deserted mall populated by evil mannequins.  They move only when you’re not looking and they’re FAST so you can’t take your eyes off them for long - which makes searching for an exit door a nerve-wracking experience.

Currently in Pre-Alpha, Late Night Shop is already a well crafted and fabulously freaky experience - it’ll take nerves of steel and a steady gaze to escape this late night shopping experience!

Electric Highways is a beautiful first person adventure that sees you exploring a series of diverse virtual landscapes, each expertly interwoven with adaptive electronica soundtracks in a surreal cyber world.

You play a VR engineer who has just finished his latest project and plunges into his world one last time before he uploads it to the internet.  What follows is a fantastic audio/visual experience in which each level feels like a song in an album, each with their own unique visual style and adaptive soundscape.

The vibrant worlds of Electric Highways offer a feast for the senses, evoking a gambit of emotions throughout it’s playtime.  You’ll take part in some first person platforming and there are a few rudimentary puzzles to solve, but on the whole Electric Highways is more about the experience.  And what an experience it is - an awesome symphony of abstract 3D visuals and pulsing electronica.  Highly recommended.

Sploot is a silly seagull pooping simulator in which you fly around a town eating bread and constantly crapping, aiming for pedestrians, buildings and cars as you try and get as high a score as possible.

Created from the ground up to work with Oculus Rift (but still playable on a standard screen), the controls are simple - just aim where you want to fly, look down and you’ll plummet downwards, look up and you’ll fly high in the sky.  As you soar around the town, your aim is to get as high a score as possible.  You do this by eating bread (to increase your multiplier) and pooping on as many high value objects as possible (especially the gold ones.)

With it’s simple, crude and silly gameplay, Sploot is a hoot.  Soaring and defecating all over a defenceless town may not be the most noble use of emerging VR technology, but it’s certainly an enjoyable one!

Ethereality is a unique audio/visual experience in which you explore a stunning, photo-realistic island while hinting down spheres which play different audio tracks from an album.

Currently very early in development, so only featuring one level at the moment, Etherreality offers up some truly breathtaking views as you explore the island - with a wow factor that’s reminiscent of the first time you played Dear Esther.  More of an experience than a game, you simply explore the island listening to cool tunes that you discover and enjoy the luscious scenery.

The dev plans to add a lot more content and VR support, but even in these early stages of development, Ethereality is a staggeringly beautiful game.  We can’t wait to explore more of this vibrant audio/visual experience.

Faceted Flight is a wonderful low poly arcade flight sim that allows you to hop in the cockpit of a remarkably agile Hover Jet and pilot your way through beautifully stylized environments.

Developed with VR in mind (but not necessary to play), you get a great feeling of exhilaration as you swoop and swerve around mountainsides in your nimble little vehicle.  The Alpha Demo offers up a couple of levels of fun gameplay, with you tasked with piloting your way through the beautiful low polly landscapes and collecting as many rings as possible.  It’s a fun experience, especially in VR, and with the devs working on adding more levels, gameplay modes, vehicles and even multiplayer, we can’t wait to see more of this low poly pilot experience.

Pixel Rift is a super cool (and rather silly) use of cutting edge virtual reality technology to re-create an authentic retro gaming experience, complete with retro consoles and environments.

You follow the life of a gaming addict Nicola as she battles through the ages to play her favourite game Pixel Rift.  You’ll play on a variety of consoles, handhelds and arcade machines, all with different graphical capabilities, from black and white blocks to colorful 90’s polygons. You’ll also play in a variety of authentic environments, from sitting in front of your TV at home, to sneakily playing a GameBoy knockoff during class.

If the rest of the environments are half as good as the school level (full of fun little touches, easter eggs and bizarre mini games) that’s available in the Alpha demo, then Pixel Rift is going to be fantastic.  It’s a wonderful concept, a fun tongue-in-cheek trip down memory lane.

This isn’t a retro game simulator, it’s a retro gaming simulator - and an awesome one at that!

Spirited Away – The Boiler Room is a fun little Oculus Rift tech demo that allows users to step into one of the most iconic scenes in Spirited Away.  Old Kamaji is there, with all 6 of his arms hard at work, as well as lots of little Susuwataribusy carrying coal to the boiler.  Although you can’t interact with anything, it’s a wonderful experience just stepping into the perfectly recreated boiler room, and just the sort of thing that Oculus Rift is made for.
