Nitronic Rush is an arcade survival racing game that features TRON-like neon visuals, excellent musicand fantastic stunts in a car that can barrel roll, shunt, fly, drive upside down (basically defy the laws of physics in a variety of fun ways).

It’s the prototype for Distance, a game which you can purchase in Beta now and was developed by a group of university students at DigiPen. In Nitronic Rush you’re not racing against the players, you’re racing against the fiendishly designed tracks, using your full arsenal of tricks to reach the finish line in one piece. The tracks can get pretty hard, but they’re consistently fun and well crafted.

As wells the main story mode, there are also challenge levels and stunt levels, featuring online leaderboards and player ghosts to race against. Nitronic Rush is a stylish, unique, highly polished, adrenaline filled arcade racing game that’s better than a lot of other ‘AAA’ racers. The fact that it’s available for free is ridiculous. Black Ice is an excellent hacking-based cyberpunk roguelike FPS RPG set in a computer mainframe, with Tron-like neon visuals and lots of Diablo-style loot.

We first covered Black Ice around 6 months ago when it was in Alpha, but with the newly gameplay improvements and the start of the Steam Greenlight campaign, we thought it time for an update.

When you start the game, you are surrounded by a variety of relatively easy to hack coloured servers, but stray further afield and things can get much tougher. Walk up to a server and right click to start hacking and a load of nasty minions will spill out of it and start attacking you. Complete the hack to earn XP and collect some lovely loot to aid your future Hacking attempts. The final goal of the game is to find and hack the biggest server of them all to release an imprisoned AI. You’ll need to level up your character considerably before you take it on though as it’s incredibly tough.

Since we covered it originally, they’ve implemented a quick but very useful tutorial section that helps to get the player started. There are also plenty of new weaponry (allowing for billions of weapon combinations), multiplayer, a hardcore (YOLO) made, better graphics, hundreds of other gameplay tweaks and the S.H.A.R.K. (a badass boss character that’s very hard to kill).

Black Ice is a thoroughly enjoyable FPS roguelike, with a great art style and an addictive quality that pushes you to just do ‘one more hack’. Highly Recommended.

NeonXSZ is a great new space combat game, inspired by Descent and Quake, with RPG elements such as loot, levelling and upgrades. Gameplay is fast paced and fun, with ships remarkably agile and handling similarly to Descent, while combat feels more like Quake. You start off with fairly weak fire-power, but as you upgrade your ship, you’ll become a force to be reckoned with.

The customisation and upgrade system in NeonXSZ is particularly impressive, with dozens of ships to choose from and over 700 Upgrades available through loot drops and trading, you’ll be able to make your ship truly unique.

NeonXSZ is an excellent slice of space combat, that takes the Descent formula and adds so much more. It also offers a massive amount of re-playability thanks to the world, upgrades and enemy AI, all being completely procedurally generated.

The game is currently on Steam Greenlight, and only needs another 2000 votes to get Greenlit. There will also be a big update to the game soon, which will add lots of new environments and challenge arenas that you can gain control of once you beat challenging, scripted battles.

Sixside is a nice first person free-running platform game, similar to Mirrors Edge, but with Tron style visuals, and MUCH harder.

Players use a combination of wall jumps and platforming skills to traverse the levels as fast as they can while trying to not plummet to their death (which they will). The difficulty is reminiscent of Super Meat Boy, and similarly to SMB, there’s a great satisfaction to be had from pulling off a perfect run and making it to the end of the levels.

Tr-Zero is essentially F-Zero on Tron bikes, with a nice sense of speed, power-ups, XP, upgrades, multiplayer, and up to 40 racers on-screen.

The Tron bikes feel great to drive, they feel suitably bulky, but are capable of cornering well due to Ridge Racer style, drift mechanics (tap break to drift). The game features X-Box 360 controller support, 6 different game modes, an excellent Tron-style soundtrack, 8 player multiplayer (+ 32 Bots) and more neon than you’d find in Clu’s glow-stick collection.

It’s still early in development, but it’s shaping up nicely, it’s about time we finally got a great Tron game!

Sevencore is a free to play MMORPG with a focus on mounted combat, with players able to ride all manner of mechanical or Bestial mounts, from dragons to futuristic motorbikes.

Players choose from 4 different races and 4 different classes, each with their own racial abilities and skill sets, then foray into the world of Inadar looking for trouble and a cool mount to ride. The mounts are fun to experiment with, and their unique combat abilities add another layer of strategy to the proceedings.

Disco Dodgeball is a ridiculous multiplayer FPS where you race around a skate park dance club and hit each other with exploding dodgeballs, that’s currently on Steam Greenlight.

It’s a fast paced game, set in multi-level futuristic, Tron-like neon arenas that runs on PC, Mac, and Oculus Rift. The game features a host of game modes such as Deathmatch, Score Battle, Elimination, Hoops, Kill The Carrier and Derby. It’’s great fun to play, and satisfying as throwing a perfectly timed shot across the arena and watching your friend get blasted to smitherines.

Vectagon is an eye melting, procedurally generated arcade survival racer inspired by F-Zero, Rez and Dyad. Reminiscent of Super Hexagon, it’s easy to play but hard to master and always keeps you coming back for one more go. With it’s fast, reflex based gameplay and trippy TRON style visuals, we’d highly recommend giving this addictive little game a go.

Vectagon plays flawlessly, but as it’s still in production, they haven’t implemented the audio yet. They are very keen to hear from any musicians and hear any suggestions.
