Rising Islands is a very cool speed-run focused dimension-flipping parkour platformer that plays like a blend of Sonic and Mirrors Edge.

Your land has been town apart into two dimensions and it’s up to you to restore order.  To aid you on your quest you have some nifty parkour skills and the ability to jump between dimensions, which are used to race through levels as fast as possible.

The high speed parkour action makes for intense and fun gameplay as you multi-task between wall-running, jumping and switching between dimensions.  Fast, fluid and fun parkour platforming.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD is a gorgeous fan-made remake that adds crisp HD visuals and vastly improved audio to Sonic 2’s classic gameplay to create something Sonic fans have been wanting for years – pure, classic Sonic gameplay with modern video game production standards.

The current build of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD features the first two levels and a Robotnik boss fight, but there’s plenty more planned for the future.  As well as recreating the full original game, the devs plan to add a few bonuses, such as online multiplayer, additional levels and Knuckles as a playable character.

We’ll be waiting with baited breath to see what the dev team comes up with next as we can’t wait to play more of this awesome HD-hog adventure.

Created and uploaded onto the tongue-in-cheek Hedgehog,Exposed website, by a ‘hacker supergroup’ Arcane Kid$, Sonic Dreams is a bizarre masterpiece that shows Sonic as you’ve never seen him before!

It’s a wonderful collection of four freaky ‘unreleased prototypes’ that feature Sonic and his pals in a variety of odd scenarios.  The four games are all pretty crazy, but Sonic Movie Maker and My Roommate Sonic are by far the most entertaining (and f***ed up).

Sonic Movie Maker sees you filming Sonic and pals in a variety of odd situations and locations including orgies, a maternity ward and a trip into Sonics bowels.  My Roommate Sonic, however feels like a full on acid trip, in which you attempt to make a move on sonic and really end up getting lost in his eyes.

It’s a wonderfully weird Sonic-infused fever dream that’s really got to be seen to be believed – and it’s also the best Sonic game in years.  Highly recommended hedgehog weirdness.

SonicGDK (short for 3D Sonic Games Development Kit) is an impressive Unreal Development Kit powered Sonic The Hedgehog game creation tool which allows users to create some seriously impressive Sonic games (much better than the tat SEGA have been making lately anyway.)

SonicGDK gives you access to 3 versions of Sonic (Classic, Generic & Modern) with super forms, power-ups, badniks, special moves, controller support, checkpoints, bumpers, spikes and various other traps - basically everything you need to make a Sonic game.  You will need at least some basic coding skills to great anything good, but going by the variety of impressive games that have already been created with SonicGDK (See GIFs above), it’s certainly a powerful and versatile game creation tool.  Maybe even SEGA could make a decent Sonic game with it!

Ninja Pizza Girl is a side-scrolling platformer inspired by Mirror’s Edge and the 16-bit classic Sonic the Hedgehog, with a story based on bullying, emotional resilience, and pizza delivering ninjas!

In Ninja Pizza girl you play as a delivery girl in a cyberpunk dystopia where you have to deliver pizza in the shortest amount of time possible, all the while defending yourself from other evil delivery teens out to bully you.  The idea of the game actually came from real life where a young girl was learning kung fu and delivering pizzas, hence ‘Ninja Pizza Girl’.

The parkour platforming of Ninja Pizza Girl focuses on joy and exhilaration, not a brutal exercise in masochism, making for a game that’s that’s easy to enjoy but tough to master.  We’ll have a stuffed crust with extra parkour, hold the anchovies.

SEGA Brawlers Megamix is an awesome fan made retro side-scrolling beat-em-up that features a roster of about 74 characters from SEGA classics like Sonic, Toejam & Earl, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Guardian Heroes, Comix Zone, Shinobi, Vector Man, Ristar, and other multiplatform games like Earthworm Jim, Battletoads and Splatterhouse.

It’s a wonderful love letter to SEGA’s 16-Bit heyday and a remarkably fun 4 player beat-em-up.  The amount of work that’s gone into the game is incredible, all the characters have their own move sets and special moves, the soundtrack is fantastic and all the levels and enemies are based on classics, such as Streets of RageGolden Axe and Sonic.  There’s even a Vs Battle mode, as well as various unlockable gameplay modes and characters unlocked by completing the main adventure.

The game’s still in development, and could do with a little more variety in the main adventure mode and some bigger bosses, but the massive character roster certainly makes up for these minor shortfalls.  It’s a fantastic homage to SEGA, 16-bit gaming and classic side-scrolling arcade beat-em-ups.  Remarkably, the dev (DJGameFreakTheIguana) is still planning to add even more characters to the game.  There really can’t be many more 16-bit SEGA characters out there - Ecco the Dolphin maybe?

Freedom Planet is a fast paced retro platformer inspired by MegamanGunstar Heroes and (most notably) Sonic.  Run, smash and fight your way through huge levels battling a variety of enemies, mini bosses and Bosses, as well as taking part in some action-packed set pieces.

Gameplay is very similar to the classic Sonic games, in-fact if one of the 3 female characters was swapped out with the blue spikey rodent, this could easily be a return to form.  The Alpha Demo gives you access to 2 playable characters, one huge level full of secrets, multiple routes and bosses, and a time-attack based Dojo.

It has all the hallmarks of a great Sonic game, speed, style, energy and fun, but cranks them all up to 11.  Play the original Sonic games after this and they’ll feel a little pedestrian.
