Currently on Kickstarter (and already funded), EOE offers a delightful tale fueled by exploration of a fantasy/sci-fi open world, and a turn-based/tactical battle system. Already Greenlit on Steam, Edge of Eternity plans to cater to fans of JRPG’s by offering an exciting game premise where players will explore the world of Heryon, which is littered with places to discover like ancient cities, hidden caves, and even spaceships.

Midgar Studio aims to create a vast epic of their own running on the Unity3D engine, where players gather party members and take point in an open world accented by involving game mechanics such as weapon evolution, skill tree leveling, and a non-linear quest system allowing players to experience the game their own way.

Even in these early stages of development it’s an impressive looking game that looks set to surpass the JRPGs it was inspired by.

The team have worked hard to create a world steeped in over 200 years of lore that involves humanity defeating a mysterious villainous superhuman organisation known as Leviathan, rebuilding their cities and developing superpowers. Still very early in development, it’s impressive what they’ve achieved so far, it’s clear the team care deeply for the project. Cabal 2 is a great looking CryEngine 3 powered, action-focused MMORPG with fluid combat that makes for some action packed and rather spectacular battles.

Featuring a variety of classes to suit any playstyle, large dungeons and PvP battlegrounds to prove your fighting prowess, Cabal 2 improves on the original in every way. The CryEngine powered grapics look fantastic, and the devs are marketing it as a hardcore MMO for true fans of the genre. So if you’re looking for a real MMO with some real graphical grunt and exciting combat, you’ll definitely want to be checking this one out.

Skyforge is a beautiful looking, highly-stylized Sci-Fi Fantasy MMORPG featuring fast paced and dynamic combat inspired by console action games. The game is set in a universe ofgods and heroes, who utilize futuristic technologies to fight off dangerous creatures and protect their planet against space invasions. Throughout the game players will develop their immortal warriors into powerful gods dominating the battlefield as invincible giants.

As well as offering players the chance to play as gods, it also intends to offer a “visually stunning and highly visceral action-combat with a unique open class system and limitless character development” and “combat inspired by console action games”. So it should look pretty, have plenty of customisation options with fast paced, fluid combat.

It’s also worth noting that the team behind Skyforge have some considerable pedigree, being developed by Allods team (Allods Online) and Obsidian (The Stick of Truth, KOTOR2,Fallout: New Vegas).

Skyforge is certainly an interesting prospect for MMO fans, the rich world and backstory of Skyforge certainly sound compelling, and really, who wouldn’t want to play as an asskicking god?

Otherland is an impressive new MMORPG based on the highly acclaimed novels of Tad Williams, where you can explore a virtual multiverse of worlds ranging from fantasy to sci-fi and beyond.

Powered By the Unreal Engine, It’s a good looking game, and Otherland’s multitude of differently themes planets allows for an incredible variety in landscapes, NPCs, outfits and weapons. The fast paced combat works well, and feels more like an action game than a classic MMORPG. There are also tons of customisation options, allowing for you to make some pretty far out looking creations.

It’s great that Otherland is finally seeing the light of day as it did have a troubled development. It’s shaping up nicely, and the selection of differently themed planets certainly adds a nice bit of variety. It may of taken it’s time, but Otherland has finally landed - the wait certainly seems to be worth it.

Secrets of Grindea is a wonderful SNES-era inspired top-down action RPG with co-op support for up to 4 players, full of retro charm, beautiful pixel art, tongue-in-cheek humor.

Secrets of Grindea features two main gameplay modes, ‘Arcade’ and 'Story’. 'Arcade’ is a fun Roguelike-style mode where you build up your base by battling across randomly generated levels full of enemies and loot. Meanwhile, the 'Story’ mode is a beautiful pixel art homage to classic SNES RPGs such as The Legend of Zelda and Secret of Mana, complete with side quests, mini-games, secrets, boss fights, an epic storyline and lots of tongue-in-cheek references to the games it was inspired by.

With it’s charming retro visuals, action orientated gameplay and fun nods to classic RPGs, Secrets of Grindea is a fantastic love letter to RPGs the 16 bit era. An epic adventure full of charm and wit, and even better with friends!

Trove has now entered Open Beta! Trove is an excellent action focused voxel-based sandbox massively multiplayer RPG that allows you to explore, fight and build, in a vibrant world that encourages exploration and feeds creativity.

As you travel the huge, ever changing worlds of Trove you’ll build, craft, mine and battle a variety of colourful enemies and bosses. Comparisons will no doubt be made to the mighty Minecraft due to it’s voxel based world and extensive (and impressive) building and crafting options. However, Trove is far more action/combat orientated and features a full RPG-style progression system, with classes (such as Gunslingers, Ninjas & Knights), loot, pets, XP, levelling, tons of customisation options and some very cool mounts (including some adorable little voxel-based ponies!).

There are new character classes released for Trove on a regular basis, usually accompanied by a new biome. It features an impressive sense of community, with almost every piece of gear, dungeon, and lair in the game created by Trove players, and feedback on the Reddit group helping to shape the game. It’s also a very welcoming place, with players happy to assist newbies with any questions.

Pixel Heroes is a charming side scrolling pixel art dungeon crawler/hero sim/rpg in which you take team of heroes on an adventure rull of random humor, random characters, randomly generated loot and randomly generated quests.

You start off in the local tavern, and must choose 3 adventurers from a randomly selected assortment of heroes, allowing for hundreds of different combinations and making each playthough significantly different. You’re then be able to explore the town, meet the local characters, visit shops and accept quests.

After exploring the town and meeting it’s colorful inhabitants you can then venture forth on randomly generated quests, full of odd encounters where you’ll level up, collect loot and defeat all manner of strange beasts (from cats to giant lobsters) in classic turn based combat.

Pixel Heroes a wonderfuly crafted pixel art RPG, full of colorful characters, quirky humor, tons of loot and short bite-sized quests. Joyfully random pixel perfect adventuring.
