Let’s Play: The Shining is an awesome retro recreation of The Shining, allowing you to play out key scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s movie, all depicted via Atari 2600 era graphics.

It’s an impressive game, that manages to sum up the whole movie in just six minutes, with faithful recreations of all your favourite scenes.  It’s testament to the quality of game design that even with the retro graphics and (excellent) chip tune audio that Let’s Play: The Shining manages to recreate the creepy atmosphere of the classic movie.

Go on, give it a play - all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

Donkey-Me is essentially Donkey Kong, but beautifully re-skinned with classic movie themes – from Alien to Indiana Jones.

Gameplay is exactly the same as the classic Donkey Kong arcade game, simply avoid obstacles while attempting to climb to the top.   What makes Donkey-Me so amazing though is the attention to detail that has gone into creating the movie based themes.  The pixel art animation is fantastic, whether you’re jumping facehuggers as Ellen Ripley or bashing Stormtroopers on your way to the Millenium FalconDonkey-Me continually impresses.

With Alien, Raiders of The Lost Ark, Gremlins, Total Recall, Conan The Barbarian, The Exorcist, Flash Gordon, Rambo and Big Trouble In Little China all recreated in perfect pixel art form, complete with chip-tune theme tunesDonkey-Me is a must for retro gamers and movie enthusiasts alike.  Pixel perfect retro platforming.

Stargate Network - A fantastic recreation of the Stargate Universe.

The full game will be an online multiplayer role-playing game, with the creatures, characters, plants and events of the movie and TV series faithfully recreated for fans to experience in first person.

It’s still very early in development, so at the moment, you can walk around the main station on Earth, Stargate Command (SGC), and even activate the Stargate and travel to another planet.

It’s still early days, but judging by the prototype, Stargate Network promises to be fan service on an epic scale.

Wow!  Now this is a blast from the past, and a very exciting prospect too!  Puppet Master: The Game brings those creepy puppets from the classic cult horror film back to life with asynchronous multiplayer as 3 puppets hunt down one big human.

For those unaware of the awesomeness that is the Puppet Master, check out the Movie trailers here, then go watch the movies (only the first few though, there are 10 of them and the later ones are garbage).

Taking a leaf out of PT‘s book (btw if you have a PS4 go and play that now!), the devs have released an ‘interactive trailer’ which allows you to control Blade - the most iconic of the Puppets.  You get to explore the Masters Workshop, then round up all the other puppets so that they can do what they do best (kill humans).

If the 3 puppets Vs 1 human asynchronous multiplayer in Puppet Master: The Game ends up being half as good as it sounds it’s going to be a corker.  Things are definitely off to a good start with the Interactive Trailer, which looks, sounds, feels and plays like an authentic extension/recreation of the films.  The Master would be proud of this creation.

Spirited Away – The Boiler Room is a fun little Oculus Rift tech demo that allows users to step into one of the most iconic scenes in Spirited Away.  Old Kamaji is there, with all 6 of his arms hard at work, as well as lots of little Susuwataribusy carrying coal to the boiler.  Although you can’t interact with anything, it’s a wonderful experience just stepping into the perfectly recreated boiler room, and just the sort of thing that Oculus Rift is made for.

Rambo: Last Blood is probably the best Rambo game you’ll ever play. Programmed by Naughty Dog Dev Peter Javidpour, it’s an inventive puzzle game with wonderful retro visuals, reminiscent of Swords & Sworcery, and an excellent sense of humour.  With a full playthough clocking in at less than 10 minutes, it’s a short, sweet & entertaining game that just keeps throwing surprises at you.   Highly recommended.
