POWER DRILL MASSACRE is an absolutely terrifying third person survival horror that draws inspiration from 80’s video nasty slasher flicks and PS1-era survival horror games to create a grimy, sinister, suspense-filled adventure that’s unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

A horrific love letter to horror games and movies of a bygone age.  A tense and terrifying video game nasty.

Bad Taste is a Troma-esque side scrolling shooter/beat-em-up with beautifully animated cut scenes and lots of horror movie in-jokes that sees you attempting to escape a fast food zombie infested city of Victoria BC before it’s nuked by the army.

Much like it’s inspiration, Bad Taste is trashy, cheesy, gory and wickedly funny. Basically if you know where the lines ‘I’m a Derek, and Derek’s don’t run’ and ‘I kick ass for the lord’ come from then you’ll love Bad Taste

They Live is a super tough, slightly unfair, but oddly addictive pixel art arcade game in which you control the late, great Rowdy Roddy Piper as he kicks ass and chews bubble gum (but he’s all out of bubble gum).

For those that have never seen the movie They Live, you’re missing out on a B-movie masterpiece.  In it Rowdy Roddy Piper’s character comes across a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see aliens that have disguised themselves as humans and have filled the world with subliminal messaging to keep humans subdued.

The They Live game is a tribute to Rowdy Roddy Piper, who sadly passed away this year.  It’s a fairly basic arcade shooter, with punishing gameplay and a really crappy shotgun, but it does have some nice touches (especially the soundbytes and video footage).  As unfair as the game seems, it’s surprisingly addictive, and a fun tribute to an ass-kicking wrestling legend.

Virtual Morality is an interactive first person murder mystery movie in which you are the protagonist and make choices that directly affect the narrative.

Set in the type of college party that only happens in American movies, populated with all your stereotypical cliques,  Virtual Morality is essentially an FMV choose your own adventure with the story branching out in multiple directions dependant on your choices.  Do you stay with the popular clique or go with the inquisitive loner?  Do you help the girl or chase the killer?  The choice it yours.

As Virtual Morality is essentially an interactive movie, the story and acting quality are paramount, and thankfully it doesn’t disappoint.  There’s the occasional bad performance (which actually adds to the enjoyment), but on the whole the cast, editing and story are great, certainly warranting multiple playthroughs to discover everything that’s going on at the party.

There’s a nice balance between tension and laugh out loud humor throughout Virtual Morality.  It’s a great concept that we can’t wait to see more of, and it also contains one of the best lines ever spoken on video:  ’Listen up you sons of bitches, there’s a goddamn knife in my head and you need to do something about it now!’

The Bad Lebowski is a short, silly and hilarious ’badaption’ of the Coen Brothers’ classic movie, The Big Lebowski.

Make no bones about it, The Bad Lebowski is a bad game, and deliberately so - it was created within 5 hours, the combat is terrible, the graphics are shoddy and the plot is a bizarre mix of remembered (or misremembered) fragments of the movie.  But this inherent badness is what makes The Bad Lebowski such a joy to play.  Throughout it’s short running time you’ll battle Nihilists, Valkyries and a small army of Jesus’s, throwing punches and fireballs on your quest to get your rug back.

Lasting only a few minutes, the whole game feels like an 8-bit version of one of The Dude’s acid-fuelled dream sequences.  Raise your white russian glasses and salute this remarkable, silly, terrible and awesome take on The Dude’s adventures.  The Dude would certainly abide this bizarre retro adventure.

Puppet Master: The Game is an awesome new horror game based on the cult movies of the 80’s and 90’s, featuring asymmetric multiplayer that pits three diminutive (but deadly) puppets against one human.

We first featured the interactive trailer back in September in which you control Blade as he searches for the rest of his little friends, but now a fully functioning prototype with 3 v 1 multiplayer gameplay has been released, and it’s just as good as we hoped.  The deliberately Low Fi graphical style may not be photorealistic, but it fits perfectly with it’s video nasty source material, and the gameplay is superb.

Players can choose between four of the Master’s creations - Blade, Tunneler, Torch and Jester, pitting them against one large, well armed detective as he investigates The Bodega Bay Inn and Toulon’s workshop.  The puppets are (unsurprisingly) the most fun to play as, each with their own attacks, able to scuttle about at high speeds, hide their diminutive forms easily and access hidden routes (such as air vents).  That being said, it’s still fun and certainly at it’s most scary when playing as the human, with plenty of scares as Blade and friends jump out from their hiding places.

Puppet Master: The Game is still very early in development, with one game mode, one map and a handful of characters available at the moment, but the devs plan to add a whole lot more, and it already has the foundations of a fantastic game.  A perfect tribute to the classic movies and also a great game in it’s own right.  Asymmetric multiplayer at it’s best - highly recommended first person puppeteering.

It’s a fantastic homage to 80’s (and early 90’s) horror that will help answer the age old questions, such as who would win in a fight between Pinhead and Freddy? Mike Myers and Jason? etc.  A movie mash-up fisher of epic proportions!
