StarMade is an impressive Minecraft inspired 3D sandbox space shooter that allows you to build and pilot gigantic spaceships and explore the galaxy.

The customisation and ship building aspects of the game are truly impressive, allowing you to build ships and massive space stations using minecraft style building techniques. You’ll then be able to kit out your ship with customised weaponry, shields, salvage and stealth technology. This can all be done in multiplayer too, allowing you to share control and design your ship together.

You can then explore the galaxy and fight enemy ships, using your ships arsenal of missiles, lasers and explosives, or you can board them and take them out from the inside.

Starmade is a wonderful sandbox game that could be described as ‘Minecraft in Space’, but really, it’s much more than that. It’s an great game in it’s own right.

Necropolis is a cool new first person rogue-like adventure game with a fantastic hand drawn black and white art style. You explore the well crafted fantasy world of Necropolis, fighting a host of paper-crafted mythical beasts and enemies. The full release will also incorporate multiplayer, so you’ll be able to explore it’s fascinating world with friends.

Counter Spell is an interesting combination of RPG and modern tactical shooter mechanics, set in a Minecraft-style world.

You’ll choose your character class, with unique spells, abilities and perks. Then play through the game in single player, online co-op or competitive multiplayer.

It’s still early in development, but it’s a fun game to play, has a unique blend of gameplay mechanics and there’s also an integrated level editor that allows for loads of user based content.

Arcane Worlds is a great looking, world exploration game, influenced by the Bullfrog classic, Magic Carpet. You play as a sorcerer, flying around and exploring mysterious worlds with loads of hidden secrets and stunning scenery. You’ll battle flying serpents, wizards and other creatures, discover new spells and open portals to other worlds.

Your spells also have the power to alter the worlds significantly, terrain can be destroyed or built up at will, allowing you to truly make your mark on the world. You’ll also be able to build your base, and our personal favourite feature, you can spawn magical floating bears that gather Mana for you!

Arcane Worlds is still in alpha, but it’s already great fun flying around and exploring the worlds. It’s already been Greenlit on Steam and the dev also plans to add multiplayer, so you can explore with a friend , or just blow them out the sky!

Quantized is a cloud-based media sandbox environment. Import publicly-available media via URL, social images/audio/video that are available to your accounts, and curate your own media content environment to build expressive worlds with your friends online.

It’s like a freaky disco Minecraft, with all the voxels pulsing to whichever music you’d like to upload. Pics and videos can also be uploaded onto the surface of the cubes, making for some pretty trippy enviroments. Quantized is currently on Steam Greenlight and is coming to Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Win phone.

Trove is an open-ended adventure where you can explore, craft and create your way through fully buildable/destructible persistent Voxel based worlds.

Exciting new worlds are generated on a regular basis, supporting free-form exploration that makes going through a mountain as rewarding as going over it, and enables community contributions to significantly impact the game.

As well as world building, Trove also features RPG elements, with Loot, monsters, resources and unlimited dungeon variations. You can even build your own fully customisable trans-dimensional home that persists across worlds and servers.

It’s shaping up to be a beautiful looking Voxel based game that blends Minecraft style world building with deeper RPG mechanics.

Samphi is a story driven RPG set in a randomly generated, destructible sandbox universe currently on Steam Greenlight. The game does have a few similarities to other sandbox games, such as Terraria, but it also has a heavy focus on storyline and RPG features such as skill sets, pets and mastering your environment. You can play it as a pure sandbox game if you like, through free-play mode, but the story is definitely worth checking out.

The story is about a relationship between boy and girl, with you re-living memories along the timeline of their relationship you learn their story. It’s a refreshing change for a sandbox game to have a real, meaningful story, and it really adds to the gameplay.

Iubes is a fun mix of real-time strategy game and god-game with some minecraft-esque aesthetics.

You don’t have direct control of your iubes, instead you decide what has to be built, then the iubes do whatever they think they have to. You must manage your time and iubes to build your city, defend it, make soldiers, and destroy your enemy.

It’s an interesting game with a wonderful art style and some great ideas.

CastleMiner Z is basically Minecraft crossed with DayZ, with added dragons and lightsabers. Playable in co-op, you mine the world for resources, and craft the weapons that you will need to survive against the zombie hordes. The game is currently on Greenlight, and is also playable on XBOX 360.
