Assassin - a super tough Megaman-esque action platformer with 360 degree gun control, in which you have to hunt down and kill the leader of China: Kong Suku, in order to start a massive war.

This game does get very hard, but much like Megaman, when you fail you only have yourself to blame.  The controls are tight, the shooting mechanics are very satisfying, and the soundtrack is killer.

The Foolish Brave - a challenging Megaman-esque Manga Inspired 2D action platformer.

Forget WASD, as this game utilizes the arrow keys for movement, and ASD are technique controls. The conversation mode is very tidy, and overlays the saturated and blooming pixel art world backdrop nicely. The Foolish Brave is easy to play, but pretty challenging, doesn’t feel like “just another sidescroller” and is slightly reminiscent of the original Megaman, but with its own Manga flavor to it.

Aero’s Quest is a fun 2D puzzle-platformer in which you play Aero, a cyborg hero who must escape his prison, built of a hundred cells and rescue his one true love from an evil mastermind.

Each level in the game is effectively a cell in the prison from which Aero must escape, fighting enemies and solving puzzles to do so.  You’ll have to be quick footed and quick thinking as you only have a set time to defeat each room, but you do have some assisatance from some cool power-ups, including power jumps, super speed and the ability to slow down time.

Still early in development, Aero’s Quest is shaping up nicely - a funplatformer with inteligent level design and some comically gory death animations.

Mighty Retro Zero is a fun Megaman inspired minimalistic pixelated action platformer that draws inspiration for it’s levels from a variety of classic arcade games such as Metroid, Bangai-O and Arkanoid.

It’s a high action, high fun game, with fast paced gameplay and a surprisingly extensive move-set including - including slides, jet-packs, and throwable spears that double as platforms.  Unsurprisingly for a game inspired by MegamanMighty Retro Zero is pretty tough, but the addictive ‘one more go’ nature of the game, fun surprises and catchy theme tune will keep you coming back for more.

As well as the main ‘history’ campaign, there are also a selection of levels based on classic arcade games, such as Arkanoid, Pang and Bangai-O.  These are a blast, and even feature a selection of power-ups from the original games.

Mighty Retro Zero may look simple, but the variety and depth of gameplay is fantastic.  It’s tough, fun and highly addictive – a glorious love letter to retro games (especially Megaman).

GunWorld is a fun retro homage to classic 8-bit action games and 80′s action movies that features challenging gameplay, non-linear progression, huge bosses and guns that literally grow on trees!

As in Megaman, players are able complete a series of levels in any order they choose, unlocking weird and wonderful weaponry as they do.  It features old school precision platforming with a satisfyingly challenging difficulty level.  There’s also co-op play, big bosses with attack patterns to master and a ridiculous plot involving the president asking you to save the world from aliens who are killing your GunMothers (magical plants which grow guns).

Needless to say GunWorld is a charmingly silly game, full of OTT weaponry and tough as nails gameplay.  A great love letter to classic 8-bit action games such as Megaman and Contra, and steeped in the excesses of the 80′s. Gr8-Bit.

Gunplay is a Sci-Fi action platformer that draws comparisons to Mega man, but with 360° aiming and lots of guns - LOTS of very large, very powerful guns.

There’s a large focus on customisation in Gunplay, the sheer volume of choice can be a little overwhelming when you first start out and the system for selecting your weaponry is can be a little confusing (when in the armoury, click on ‘primary’, 'secondary’ or 'back-up’ with the mouse pointer).  But once you figure it out it’s great fun experimenting with the wide variety of unique and inventive weaponry.

While graphically it’s reminiscent of Mega Man, the level design feels more like Castlevania/Metroid, with large open levels which you are free to explore and kill things in.  Gunplay is shaping up to be a great game, and there’s a lot of fun to be had from experimenting with the weaponry and gadgets.  It’s due to start a Steam Greenlight campaign soon so be sure to keep keep an eye out and throw it a vote!

ENYO Arcade is a very cool 2D action adventure game with a great looking pixel art-style, smooth gameplay, lots of weaponry and some nice surprises.  It draws favourable comparisons to MetroidMega Man and Contrabut with plenty of great ideas of it’s own.

You start off in the game running for your life from a place that’s about to self destruct, fighting corrupted creatures through well crafted, branching levels.  It can be played with mouse and keyboard or a controller, using an Abuse-Style control scheme, with the mouse or right analogue stick aiming your gun reticule.

Even in these early stages of development, the game is surprisingly well polished, with your characters platforming and combat controls working superbly.  The gritty 2D pixel art style of ENYO Arcade is excellent, giving the game a real sense if identity and attitude.

The Alpha Demo is a great slice of 2D action adventure that we’d highly recommend giving a go.  It’s one that’s worth keeping an eye on in the future too, as future updates will feature Mechs and Jets and boss fights.

To demonstrate the variety of creations available to players and to showcase the gameplay options, game developers - Wicked Loot - have released 3 different Alpha Demos, each with a different theme.  It’s not possible to fully build and create in the Demos (though the second demo does allow some building functions), but they’re great fun none the less and offer a great demonstration of the gameplay, carnage and voxel based destruction.

The first Demo released was Retro Rising RAMPAGE (RRR), a fast-paced FPS arcadey homage to 8-bit NES era, with you playing as a Mega Man-esque character, fighting off shy guys.  The second demo - Gaiden 2: Build Play - allows you access to some of the building mechanics, with you building a fortress and battling in it.  Last but not least, there's Titian Rising which has just been released, is by far the most spectacular of the three, with you fighting off a massive Titan which can completely destroy the voxel based terrain.

All three Pre-Alpha Demos offer up unique and entertaining experiences, whether it be retro charm, building fortresses or the spectacle of fending off a massive Titan.  Each one’s a great showcase for the vast possibilities that in a game that both nurtures creativity and embraces destruction.

The rather long titled DeathOfSerious Mugen Pack World Of Madness is an awesome M.U.G.E.N  based fighter that allows for some very silly (and brilliant) match-ups.  Allowing you to pit Homer Simpson Vs Peter Griffin, Megaman vs Sub Zero, Kirby Vs Spider man, Iron Man Vs  Kirby and Mario Vs Spongebob.

The roster in the Alpha currently includes 30 characters battling over 50 classic video game stages, but the goal for the finished game is a massive 1344 characters and 500 stages (for an idea of how that will play, check out Salty Bet).  The rather ambitious plan it to bring a bit of balance and polish to those 1344 M.U.G.E.N  created characters, which as you can imagine, may be quite tricky.  Balance isn’t the main draw here anyway, if you want a competitive fighter get Streetfighter 4, if you want to experience Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin beating the crap out of each other on Rainbow Road, get this!

It’s still in early Alpha, but already it’s thoroughly entertaining and perfect for settling the age old question “Who would  win in a fight between…
