Super Awesome Quest is an interesting new RPG for iOS and Android with unique token-flipping combat and an in-depth crafting system.

The token-flipping combat looks pretty interesting and well suited to touch-screen devices, offering up a simple, fun and tactical fighting system.  It also offers up regular RPG staples such as crafting, equipment, multiple playable characters and loot drops.

With it’s unique combat system Super Awesome Quest is looking like a fun an innovative way of making an RPG work on touch screen devices.  It’s due for release in September, but you’ll be able to play it early by signing up for the Beta.

GunBlocks is a fun mix of TetrisWorms and Terraria, where you control a crew-mate of a crash-landed spaceship who has to put up with an incompetent captain and an over-fiendly super computer while on a quest to repair the ship.

The gameplay is pretty easy to pick up, each move you must use the Tetris-like blocks in your inventory to aid your progress across the world, then aim and fire, then finally move forward 4 spaces.  The screen automatically moves forward each turn, so if you get stuck behind some scenery for too long you’ll die.  Likewise, if you fail to fill in any gaps in the scenery and fall through as you automatically move forward 4 spaces you’ll die.  There’s not much chance of this happening in the relativity easy Pre-Alpha Demo, but it’s easy to see how the difficulty could be ramped up with larger gaps and obstacles.

The Pre-Alpha Demo is pretty short, but it does give a good indication of what to expect from the finished game.  As well as it’s innovative gameplay features, GunBlocks also has a great sense of humor, with an incompetent crew helmed by a captain that allows his pet pig to fly a spacecraft, a super happy ship computer, and your character who’s all to happy to point out the ridiculousness of his situation.  Coming to PC, Mac, and iOS/Android TabletsGunBlocks looks set to be a fun puzzle platform adventure with an interesting mix of of gameplay mechanics and a great sense of humor.

Quintet lets you and up to 4 other players pilot your own Star Trek-Style Space craft through space, with each player taking on different roles – from a Captain Kirk to a Scotty.

With gameplay split into 5 roles – Captain, Helm, Tactical, Engineering and Science. How successful you are will depend on how well you all work together.  Communication is key, and although you don’t have to sit in a swivel chair and command ‘warp speed Mr Sulu’ or ‘fire the torpedoes’, it certainly adds to the experience.

There are multiple types of ships for 1 to 5 players, so solitary pilots can still go where no man has gone before with no need for a crew.  All of the different ships can play with (or against) each other in the same missions/scenarios.

The amount of cross-platform compatibility is particularly impressive, as Windows, Mac, Linux, Web Browser and Tablet/Mobile users can all play together.  The Beta is available at any time, but every Monday at 7pm EST they also host Massive Battle Mondays – an event that gathers together crews for a mighty big scrap.  More power to the shields and set Phasers to kill!

World Zombination is a fun real time strategy game that tasks you with taking over the world with your zombie horde or helping the human faction survive the zombie apocalypse.

The zombie hordes are certainly that, with hundreds of zombies swarming the screen hell-bent on feasting on the survivors.  As well as sheer numbers, the zombie faction has a range of different zombies such as runners, spitters and brutes at their disposal to accomplish world zombination.

The humans may not have numbers but they’ve got brains (braaaains).  With a selection of units such as snipers, medics and brawlers, they use tactical positioning and superior firepower to fight back the waves of undead.

As well as masses of zombies, World Zombination has a wonderful cartoony art style, a great sense of humor and some clever character design.  Swarms of zombies look fantastic as they charge across the screen, especially if they’re the one in charge of them!

The Beta works on iPad 2 and iPhone 5 or newer at the moment, but there are plans for Android, Mac & PC versions.

Apexicon is a fun word based puzzle RPG, with upgrades, special moves and a surprisingly enjoyable story.

At it’s core, the aim is to make words that are as long as possible form the selection of letters available, then ‘attack’ your opponent, dealing damage equal to the length of the word.  It’s a good system, with added depth thanks to the green healing letters and special moves.

The game allows you to upgrade and fully customise your character using with ‘INK’ that is won through matches.  You’ll also be able to manage the town, build friendships with NPCs and take part in side quests.  The character drawings, and voice acting are both well done and do a good job of pulling you into the games intriguing story that promises multiple endings.

Apexicon is a simple and enjoyable puzzle game wrapped up in an interesting story and a wide array of RPG elements.  Definitely worth checking out if your a fan of word games, especially Boggle.

Rakete is a chaotic little game, similar to Lunar Lander, where the aim is to take off from point A and land on point B.  Sounds easy?  What about doing it with five thrusters, controlled by 5 different keys?  Still to easy?  How about doing it with 5 different players, each one controlling a separate thruster?  Houston, we have a problem!

Rakete is great fun in single player, and is still pretty tricky using the keyboard to coordinate your thrusters, but multiplayer is where the real fun is.  5 players can all connect to the game using the brass monkey app for iOS or Android devices, then each player can control an individual thruster.  What follows is usually a chaotic disaster, with the ship cartwheeling and smashing into the ground, along with lots of shouting and plenty of fun.  In this game, many hands don’t make light work, they pick it up smash it into the ground.

The hugely successful World of Tanks empire looks set to conquer the mobile market with World of Tanks Blitz.  We’ve got no idea how it’s possible to control a tank with a touch-screen interface, but we’re sure the guys at wargaming have it all figured out, and it certainly looks impressive already.

World of Tanks Blitz will feature over 80 armored vehicles, 7 vs 7 battles and 7  battle maps (including Mines from the original game).  The game is planned to be released on all mobile devices, but at the moment the Beta is limited to the iPad 2, 3, 4, Mini, Air and Mini with retina display.
