Gunscape is a great new voxel based FPS construction kit that allows you to create your own single-player campaigns, co-op levels or multi-player arenas, tailoring the theme, weapons, enemies and power-ups to create your unique vision.

The crafting is remarkably easy once you get the hang of it, with the basic level layout created out of Minecraft-style cubes, then filled with a wide selection of decorations and interactive objects.  There will be a large choice of themes, ranging from early classics to the modern triple-A stealth and war shooters.  Levels can then be uploaded, shared and voted on, so there will allways be a huge selection of content to play.

There were no single-player levels available at time of testing, but Multi-player death-matches are reminiscent of early shooters like Quake and Doomfast paced and fun, with a nice selection of weaponry, power-ups and enemies to keep things interesting.  Gunscape is shaping up to be a very powerful FPS Construction-kit, with which it’s both fun to create and fun to play.

Illuminascii is a great new FPS with a wonderful ascii text based visual style that features randomly generated content and roguelike elements.  It’s a very silly game, great fun to play, and like any good roguelike, you never know what’s going to happen next.  It’s probably best to explain what happened during my first game:

My randomly generated character, ‘Killroy the Gaunt Vegetable Wizard’, was wandering around admiring the scenery (it is an oddly pretty game) when a large blue ‘J’ set upon me, I promptly shot it a few times, and was told ‘you have killed a deformed burrito’.  I came across many such monsters, including a ‘ruinous water pistol’, a ‘pompus corpse’ and ‘lumbering hermit’, and completed a few levels, each time with a strange randomly generated cutscene playing.  I found another gun, a fruit machine, a vending machine, ammo and food.  I was doing rather well, until I got to a wooded area similar to the one above, and was promptly wiped out buy a ‘lecherous motorcycle’ and an ‘aggravated bearded cat’.   ’Killroy the Gaunt Vegetable Wizard’ was no more!!

You have to play this game, it’s still in early Alpha, but already in these early development stages, it’s 100% pure, weird random fun.

Disco Dodgeball is a ridiculous multiplayer FPS where you race around a skate park dance club and hit each other with exploding dodgeballs, that’s currently on Steam Greenlight.

It’s a fast paced game, set in multi-level futuristic, Tron-like neon arenas that runs on PC, Mac, and Oculus Rift.  The game features a host of game modes such as Deathmatch, Score Battle, Elimination, Hoops, Kill The Carrier and Derby.  It’’s great fun to play, and satisfying as throwing a perfectly timed shot across the arena and watching your friend get blasted to smitherines.

Fabula Mortis is a great new Steampunk FPS set in featuring twisted characters from old fairy tales, currently on Steam Greenlight.

Featuring characters such as Alice (shown above), Rouge (Red Riding Hood), Wulf (self explanatory) and ROB (Tin Man?) that encourage different playstyles, the game has fast paced combat with big beefy weapons that recalls old school FPS games such as UNREAL Tournament and Quake.

The game also looks visually stunning, with lots of nice little touches,  it’s a joy to roam around the twisted Wonderland that developers Deadghost have created.

CDF Ghostship is a first person & third person survival horror sci-fi shooter.  It’s a fun and scary free roaming FPS with nasty aliens and beefy weapons, inspired by Doom, System shock, Dead Space and Natural Selection.  It’s a fun game, and it’s great exploring the open world, discovering aliens, then blowing them away with a variety of weapons.
