Ratz Instagib is a fast-paced multiplayer shooter that, as you can guess by the name, focuses on one-shot-kill Instagib action, making for some gloriously kinetic and high-stakes battles.

Everybody gets only one weapon of the same kind, and it’s a one shot kill laser weapon.  It’s great to see a game that’s focused on the Instagib mode, bringing back the shooting genre to its most basic, competitive and fair nature, with everyone on an equal footing.

The prototype was released a while ago and is an very early build but a more fleshed out version is coming to Steam Early Access soon, with more modes (such as Duel, Deathmatch, TeamDeathmatch, Capture the Flag, FreezeTag and Survival) but still keeping the awesome and addictive one shot one kill concept still intact.  With it’s fast paced instagib action, Ratz Instagib is great fun, offering a pure, stripped down FPS experience that rewards skill.

Overwatch is a fantastic looking new team based FPS from Blizzard that’s set in a futuristic world that does’t think it needs heroes anymore (but actually does).

Overwatch features a wide array of unique heroes, ranging from a time-jumping adventurer, to an armored, rocket-hammer-wielding warrior, to a transcendent robot monk.  Every hero plays differently, and mastering their abilities is the key to unlocking their potential.

This may be Blizzard’s first real stab at and FPS but you’d never guess, the gameplay looks fast, strategic and (most importantly) fun. Much like Team Fortress or a MOBA, teams will have to work together to overcome their adversaries, with every heroes powers designed around being an effective part of a team.

Overwatch is Blizzard’s first truly new IP in over a decade, and it looks awesome.  To see how awesome, check out the trailers & sign up for the Beta - Blizzard doesn’t do things by halves, you won’t want to miss this.

The Chosen is an ambitious open-world online RPG with FPS and strategy elements that allows players to choose their own path between light and darkness, exploring a vast, persistent universe, discovering new civilisations, forging alliances and taking part in epic battles.

The Alpha Demo is single player only, but serves as a nice taster of what the finished game will feel like.  It starts off with a slightly clunky handling, but well written section with you floating around in zero-gravity, with things picking up pace once you get your feet on the ground. As you explore the damaged ship your AI will assist you learning the ropes. Although you’re stranded on a damaged spaceship, full of nasty mutants, your character seems remarkably upbeat about the situation (although it may be the painkillers talking), leading to some pleasantly humorous dialogue between yourself and the AI.

Currently early in development, the finished massively multiplayer online game will feature a huge sprawling galaxy for you to explore full of mysteries, new civilisations and rich lore. You’ll be able to build and customise your own ship, hi-jack enemy ships, voice chat with NPCs and trade in a player driven ecomomy.

It’s an impressive project and sounds a lot like what we were promised from Destiny.  The single player Alpha Demo shows off some solid foundations for The Chosen, if the developers can bring this level of innovation, wit, graphical prowess and gameplay to the online multiplayer, this could be something rather special.

Counter Spell combines elements of classic role playing games with modern tactical and stealth-based shooters, all wrapped up in a wonderful retro aesthetic that makes it feel like a first person Zelda shooter at times.

We first covered Counter Spell last year and development has come along nicely since then.  In the game you customise your character by selecting unique spells, perks and abilities then make your way through single player quests, co-op or competetice multiplayer.  As you play you’ll collect lots of lovely loot, and your abilities allow for some uniquely tactical gameplay, with you able to lay traps, use powerful items or just hurl fireballs at your enemies.

There’s also a detailed level editor, allowing you to easily create and share levels with others, you can even take control of the levels monsters to really challenge your friends.

It’s a fun game, with a great blend of RPG and FPS action, which allows you to play, create and share, as well as maim, burn and kill.  Spelltacular.

Counter Strike is one of the most influential FPS franchises in modern gaming, there is however one thing which it’s missing - zombies!

Counter Strike Nexon: Zombies plans to add the undead hordes to the classic terrorist Vs counter-terrorist gameplay of Counter Strike, with new guns, and new characters to unleash in PvP and PvE play.  In development from Nexon, It feature scenarios, boss fights, unique abliities, OTT Weaponry, over 50 maps and over 20 different gameplay modes from Zombie Hero to Football.  It also features an ability to craft new weapons, team up with friends, share equipment and unlock rewards faster.

It’s a fun game that adds a whole lot more than just zombies to the Counter Strike formula.

Hunted is a tricky first person shooter where there’s only one shooter and it’s not you!  A VERY accurate sniper at the top of the hill is trying to kill you and you have to reach him without getting killed.

The game is extremely hard, exciting, and an intense and fun new way to experience a game. You really are in fear of your life from start to finish

There are 2 versions of the Alpha Demo available, the original ridiculously hard one and a slightly easier one.   We recommend playing the original first to see how you fare, then trying the newer version once you’re fed up of dying!

Avenging Angel is a very pretty single-player first person action adventure game set in a steampunk version of planet Earth, aproximatley 10 thousand years from now.

You play an Associate of the Inventors Guild, dropped to an island on the Atlantic Ocean on a routine maintenance job. As you venture through the island, it becomes clear that all is not right on this strange island.  The steampunk setting of Avenging Angel is excellent, full of decaying steam powered equipment and some rather cool looking robotic enemies.

Although there is weaponry to be used in Avenging Angel (the Pre-Alpha Demo features duel wielding flintlocks and a Katana), it’s by no means just a first person shooter.  It’s more of a first person puzzle adventure with some shooty bits thrown into the mix (including a run in with a very cool looking mechanical spider).  In the Pre-Alpha Demo these puzzles are fairly easy to solve, but as it’s a large open world that you’re exploring, you may have to know where to look (hint: check out the house on your right first).

Dark Amber Softworks have created a beautiful world, full of mystery and wonder.  A full playthrough of the Avenging Angel Pre-Alpha demo will take less than 20 minutes, and once it’s finished you’ll dying for more.

Unreal Tournament 4 is the fifth main game in the Unreal Tournament series, powered by the new, powerful Unreal Engine 4.  It’s a competitive, fast-paced online arena first person shooter with beefy weapons, cool abilities, and great map designs.

The game is being made by a small team of Unreal Tournament veterans, with any developer who has a licensed Unreal Engine 4 able to help.  The developement of the game is completely public, and when the game launches it’s going to be free, not ‘free to play’ but completely FREE.

Builds are updated more than once a week so check back regularly to follow it’s development.  The servers are limited at the moment, and as you can imagine they’re pretty packed, so if you can’t access a game now just try again later.  Happy Fragging!

Wickland is an old school arena FPS heavily inspired by classic 90′s shooters like Heretic and Hexen, which allows you to morph into deadly beasts and frag your foe with unique attacks.

In Wickland the goal is very simple – kill your opponent.  Players start as human characters with the ability to morph into other beast characters that are scattered around the map. The beasts are unique, which means that once a beast has been taken by a player, it will not respawn until the beast has been killed.  Other types of items are also available and placed strategically around the map (potions, armour, etc.) to aid your battle.

This is no namby pamby CoD-likeWickland a proper old school arena shooter, but with wall running, modern visuals and a very cool beast morphing mechanic.  A mighty morphing retro shooter.

Necropolis is a rather awesome standalone Doom Total conversion First Person Brawler with RPG elements, set in a very stylish black and white world full of weird and wonderful monsters trying to rip you to (papery) shreds.

The game is still far from complete, but it’s already great fun, with it’s cool paper-craft visual style, 3 different playable classes (Mage, Huntress & Cleric), each with their own type of weaponry (Magic, Bow & Sword) and a large variety of enemies to slice your way through to gain lots of loot.  Blood-soaked paper-craft fun.
