Quantum Rush is a great looking futuristic arcade racer, in a similar vein as WipEout and F-Zero, but with gigantic tracks, online comunity features and fully customisable/upgradable ships with unique special abilities.

The ships all handle well, and hurtle around at break-neck speeds, it also features WipEout-style power-ups scattered across tracks, which makes for some pretty hectic multiplayer races.  The tracks are also all well designed, and with plenty of variety, whether your hurtling around a futuristic cityscape or a dusty canyon, it’s consistently visually engaging.  It’s a great futuristic racer, that’s very fast, very pretty, and lots of fun.

The Developers are planning on hosting a Devs Vs Beta Tester Tournament tomorrow.  All you have to do (once you’re in the Beta) to take part in this event is to log in and join matchmaking for Death Race on tier 1 at Friday, 21/3/2014, at 4:00 p.m. (CET).  For the YouTubers amongst you, you’re all allowed to record the event and publish videos about it as you see fit.

Zombies Monsters Robots (ZMR), is a fantastically over the top looking third-person shooter in which you’ll fight (yup you’ve guessed it) zombies, monsters and robots.  It features a suitably ridiculous Sci-Fi story about humans inventing a cross-dimensional portal that allows a whole army of nasty Zs, Ms & Rs access to our world.  Of course, they’re not just popping over for a cup of coffee, instead their plan is to kill, crush and destroy any humans they come across, including you.

Developed by Yingpei Games (collaborators on Gears of War), it’s a spiritual successor toMercenary Ops a hugely successful game with over 30 million registered users.  Gameplay looks quite similar to the Gears of War series, with OTT weaponry and some masterful enemy design, up to eight players working together in co-op missions or 16 players going head to head (includes monsters Vs humans mode).

ZMR looks set to deliver some fun, team based third person combat with great visuals, style and enemy design.  It’s Gears of War, Online and turned up to eleven.

Outpost is a management sim that tasks you with helping your crew survive in a remote mining facility on a hostile planet until rescue.  It’s simple, Prison Architect graphical style belies a deceptively tricky game, which is an ongoing balancing act of building defences, mining, hunting and resource management.

This balancing act is pretty hard to get to grips with initially as there are so many things to keep tabs on that you’re constantly running out of one resource or another.  A tutorial would be a welcome addition, but once you get to grips with the game, it presents satisfying challenge.  A challenge that only increases as earthquakes, freezing storms and local wildlife disrupt the base operations.  Also, there’s also the small matter of what killed the previous occupants of the base, and when it’s coming back.

Outpost is a challenging balancing act that will force you to make sacrifices and difficult choices along the way.  It’s doubtful all of your cute little engineers will survive, but hopefully they won’t die in vain!

Obsidian are certainly busy at the moment as well as SCi-Fi Fantasy MMO Skyforge, they’re also set to take on World of Tanks with their new Military MMO.  Armored Warfare is a new massively multiplayer online tactical military video game that allows you to drive general purpose combat vehicles, to battle tanks, and long-range high-powered artillery.

You’ll be able to build your private military arsenal as you gain more combat experience, establishing relationships with other corporations, contractors and non-government suppliers.  Obsidian plans to constantly update the game throughout it’s lifecycle, adding new vehicles, upgrades, and maps on a regular basis.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Armored Warfare though is that the all the maps and scenarios will have destructible environments.  This should add another layer of strategy and complexity to the game as the terrain changes throughout matches, and more importantly it’s just great fun blowing stuff up!

Deadwood is a great looking twin-stick shooter/tower defence hybrid that that sees you scavenging and securing a base during the daytime and fighting off zombies in the night time.  The Prototype is still early in development so obviously it’s not fully featured, but it already looks very nice and shows of the core gameplay pretty well.  You can scavenge for resources, set traps, erect barriers, create choke points and shoot down the wooden zombies (Deadwoods), trying to survive as long as possible.

Once you’re finished playing the prototype, you’ll be given the option to leave feedback and sign-up for the fully featured Beta.

Black Ice is an excellent hacking-based cyberpunk roguelike FPS RPG set in a computer mainframe, with Tron-like neon visuals and lots of Diablo-style loot.

We first covered Black Ice around 6 months ago when it was in Alpha, but with the newly gameplay improvements and the start of the Steam Greenlight campaign, we thought it time for an update.

When you start the game, you are surrounded by a variety of relatively easy to hack coloured servers, but stray further afield and things can get much tougher.  Walk up to a server and right click to start hacking and a load of nasty minions will spill out of it and start attacking you.  Complete the hack to earn XP and collect some lovely loot to aid your future Hacking attempts.  The final goal of the game is to find and hack the biggest server of them all to release an imprisoned AI.  You’ll need to level up your character considerably before you take it on though as it’s incredibly tough.

Since we covered it originally, they’ve implemented a quick but very useful tutorial section that helps to get the player started.  There are also plenty of new weaponry (allowing for billions of weapon combinations), multiplayer, a hardcore (YOLO) made, better graphics, hundreds of other gameplay tweaks and the S.H.A.R.K. (a badass boss character that’s very hard to kill).

Black Ice is a thoroughly enjoyable FPS roguelike, with a great art style and an addictive quality that pushes you to just do ‘one more hack’.  Highly Recommended.

The DC Comics MOBA, Infinite Crisis goes into Open Beta today and to celebrate they’re adding 3 new characters to the roster.  Green Arrow, Aquaman and Mecha Superman will coin the ranks of Batman, Joker, Wonder Woman and a host of other DC Heroes and Villains.

Infinite Crisis is a fun take on the MOBA genre, and while it may not have as many playable characters as some, the DC licence adds a lot to the game, mainly because everyone enjoys beating up Superman!

Tri is a first-person 3D puzzle/platformer set in an East Asian abstract world where your objective is to collect three statues hidden within the level by jumping, sprinting, crouching and using the only tool in your arsenal; that tool is of course, the triangle!  While the concept may sound elementary, Tri is a great brain-teaser where you’re faced with walls to scale up and obstacles to hurtle, forcing you to create triangles of different shapes and sizes in order to reach your objective. It’s mathematical!

Currently, those that download the Beta are limited to a single tower containing some relatively easy puzzles and exploration, however Rat King Entertainment promises much more including a “freestyle” aspect that will allow you to run off walls and ceilings along with vast new landscapes and huge towers to traverse.  It’s an interesting game to say the least, and if you enjoy games like PortalQube, or antichamber, the Tri Beta is worth the download.
